Rell Nightwind is an SI:7 operative who commanded the team assigned to track down the whereabouts of the White Pawn on Pandaria during the Alliance-Horde war. He dual-wields a pair of daggers and owned a gyrocopter.
History
Mists of Pandaria
Rell was first seen in Stormwind Keep reporting the status of the Alliance fleet that had Anduin Wrynn on the board to King Wrynn. He alongside other agents of the SI:7 were then tasked to travel south and find the White Pawn. Flying on the board of the Skyfire, the army was attacked by Horde ships near the Jade Forest on Pandaria.
Rell and others then went inside Garrosh'ar Point, where he scouted and looked for Anduin and Taylor. Sully "The Pickle" McLeary sent Alliance adventurer to aid Rell. With the enemy forces thinned and their war wagon destroyed,[2][3] With no luck finding Anduin or Taylor, Rell had the adventurer take out the commander of the area, the warlock Ga'trul, but they didn't get to him in time, and the orc escaped. Sky Admiral Rogers from the Skyfire saw orcs swimming toward the pier and ordered her men to shoot them, but Rell noticed they were unarmed and likely to surrender and not to drown. Suddenly, he was overtaken by shadows which briefly transformed him and made him angrier. Quicky, a pandaren approached and dispelled the shadows, revealing sha. Taran Zhu explained a little of what the sha was and warned him to be careful of what emotions he emits in Pandaria.[4] Rell then directed the adventurer to Paw'don Village where he hoped to establish diplomatic ties with the natives and establish a secure location to tend to their wounded.[5] The way north was filled with more sha, and Rell wanted them eliminated.[6]
Rell then came to the village and sought to assist the population. Upon receiving Sully's scouting report about the Horde's army at Twinspire Keep, Rell asked the adventurer to kill Dalgan and Bellandra Felstorm and to point Skyfire air support at enemy forces.[7][8] Once Dalgan, Bellandra, and Ga'trul were killed, Rell arrived at Twinspire Keep and was surprised to see the warlock transformed. Taran Zhu came with him and told him about the sha, how they thrive on negative emotions. Rell stated that the Horde would seek to conquer Pandaria and urged the pandaren to join them in their quest to repel them, but Taran declined and warned him not to bring the faction war to Pandaria.[9] Rell and the others stayed at the ruins to deal with the rest of the Horde, while sending the adventurer to Rogers to continue their main mission of finding the White Pawn. He gave them his gyrocopter for a quick transport.[10]
Accompanied by Mishka and Sully, the trio followed Admiral Taylor to Pearlfin Village and entered an agreement with Bold Karasshi.[1] Realizing they needed allies, Rell began working to befriend Pearlfin Jinyu and had the adventurer meet the jinyu and convince their leaders that they were not to be feared, and that they only wished for peace.[11] Rell sensed the urgency of time, so he and Sully planned to search for Anduin to the north, but first they needed rations for the journey. After receiving permission to hunt, Rell asked the adventurer to gather supplies from the wildlife, while the two agents finalized their preparations. Soon after, Taylor recovered, and he sent Rell out into the wilderness with Sully and Little Lu to scout and find Anduin.[12]
He and his team found a plane and Agent Amber Kearnen in it in Fox Grove. He defended her from the attacking Forest Hozen.[13] After this, they went further to Shadybranch Pocket, and Rell distributed orders to his team, after which they went to prepare to set up a camp or scout near Serpent's Spine. He was critically injured in a one-sided battle against superior numbers of Horde-aligned hozen.[14] He survived though and the team continued to the north - to the Lair of the Jade Witch[15] and at Scenic Overlook near the Grookin Hill where he was watched over Little Lu.[16] Subsequently, they returned to Pearlfin Village. It is unknown if immediate first aid could have helped him, but by the time his team brought him back to Pearlfin Village, Mishka explained that he was dying; he did not have much time left and all she could do was to make him more comfortable, while Amber expressed frustration with their helplessness.
Despite his grievous wounds he managed to recover and is seen in Celestial Tournament along with his comrades.
Dragonflight
After the new night elf capital Bel'ameth was established, Rell moved into the Arlithrien Lodge.

Trivia
- Initially, Rell's fate was uncertain. He was not seen since [10-35] Get Back Here!, the other agents making no further mention of him and focusing on their duties. In Kun-Lai Summit, Admiral Taylor told adventurers that "we lost some good people"[17] without mentioning any specific names. Though he was presumed deceased,[18] it was later revealed by Dave Kosak that Rell actually survived the war.[19] When patch 6.0 went live Rell and his team were retroactively added into the Celestial Tournament, as it was not done so when the Timeless Isle was current in 5.4.
- During the MoP beta, he was referred to as a commander.[20][21]
- He used a blue liquid to display a recorded message from Admiral Taylor to Varian Wrynn.[22] It's possible that it was moonwell water, indicating it can be apparently used to exchange messages across vast distances in times of great need.
- Rell is voiced by Travis Willingham.
