Garion was the leader of the black dragonflight's Ironscales during the War of the Scaleborn.

He knew about Neltharion's work in Aberrus, and when he saw the Aspect tap into the Void in order to defeat Raszageth during the Battle of the Reach he was trusted to remain silent on the matter. He was ordered to ensure that all black dragons who had been on the Reach during the battle did not leave the island without Neltharion's express permission.

Garion led his Ironscales in the defense of the green dragonflight during Fyrakk's incursions upon the Emerald Plains, taking to the defense of the Emerald Gardens and Stonefray Falls. After Fyrakk's imprisonment he was returned to the defense of the Obsidian Citadel for a time before being called to Valdrakken in anticipation of the Primalist assault on the city. During the battle for Valdrakken he and his Ironscales were sent to collapse the fissures Iridikron was using to transport his forces into the region.

Garion was present at the Battle of Harrowsdeep, where he and his forces guarded the dragonflights' makeshift forward camp.
