The Faithless, also known as the Faithless empire[1][2] or the sethrak empire,[3][4] (sometimes capitalized as the Sethrak Empire)[5] are a force of militant sethrak led by Emperor Korthek.[6] Having turned away from the sethrak's loa Sethraliss, the Faithless and their emperor seek to conquer all of Zandalar and will not stop until they have conquered the world.[6] They have allied themselves with the forces of General Jakra'zet of the Zanchuli Council[7] with the shared goal of breaking the seal on the great pyramid of Atul'Aman and unleashing the monstrosity within in order to conquer Zuldazar.[8]
History
The Faithless' leader Korthek was once one of the Keepers — sethrak charged with protecting Atul'Aman, the tomb housing the corpse of Mythrax the Unraveler after he was defeated by Sethraliss. However, as the sands continued to spread, Korthek grew hungry for war and plotted to unearth Mythrax and use him as a weapon to conquer Zandalar. He raised an army of like-minded sethrak, and they began to slaughter those who opposed them. Keeper Sulthis was the first to fall, but not before safeguarding one of the three keystones required to break the seal on Atul'Aman. The Devoted who were still loyal to Sethraliss, led by Keeper Vorrik, were forced out of their home and into hiding. They have been fighting the Faithless ever since.[9] Since Korthek's betrayal, the Faithless have brought war upon the lands in search of the remaining keys to Atul'Aman, and the Sanctuary of the Devoted has become the last bastion for the Devoted.[6][8]
In ages past, the Faithless attacked the Port of Zem'lan, which was under the control of Pirate-King Zem'lan and his Zandalari pirates.[10][11] Refusing to let the sethrak take his home, Zem'lan used a set of cursed idols to transform his crew into skeletons, allowing them to retain control of the port for all eternity.[12][13]
In the current day, one force of Faithless led by Fangcaller Sraka mercilessly attacked a vulpera caravan at the Abandoned Burrows.[14] Another group, headed by Overseer Nerzet, scoured the ruins of Zul'Ahjin in search of Keeper Sulthis' keystone.[15] An invasion force was also sent to Zuldazar, where they destroyed the village of Dol'watha. The sethrak have taken to subjugating anyone they can as slaves.[16] and aim to spread the sands of the desert and the frontiers of their empire as far as possible, such as Nazmir.[17]
Later, a large force of Faithless assaulted the Sanctuary of the Devoted and captured Vorrik[8] until he was rescued by a Horde champion.[18] Though Vorrik has long held out hope of being able to convince Korthek peacefully to abandon his heresy, he resolves that all of Zandalar remains at risk as long as Korthek and his allies hold even one key to Mythrax's prison. Thus Vorrik and the champion traveled north to sneak into Korthek's fortress and confront the "emperor" together.[19] With the help of the vulpera, Vorrik and his ally wreak havoc on the Faithless' fortress, and confront Emperor Korthek. However, during the fight, the emperor reveals that Jakra'zet already has Korthek's keystone and has likely retrieved Sulthis and Vorrik's stones, which were left unguarded at the Sanctuary of the Devoted. Eventually, Korthek is defeated and tells Vorrik that he never forced any of the sethrak to follow him and that their people are conquerors. Vorrik replies that "Our people are dead, because of you", then kills the emperor.[20]
The Faithless were amongst the forces that invaded Zuldazar, as Zul and his forces sought to destroy the Great Seal. While some made their way into the Zocalo and were defeated by the Horde, others were held off by Akunda.[21]
Shadowlands
The Faithless within the Temple of Sethraliss came under attack by Emeni, with Commander Revok and Skycaller Jorthok being amongst the casualties.[22]
Exploring Azeroth
At an unknown point in time, the Temple of Sethraliss was regained by the Devoted.
By the year 42 ADP, the sethrak civil war was said to have been over for years and that the reputation of the Faithless still hung over the sethrak. Some members of the Faithless who had laid down their arms and wished to find peace made their way to the Temple of Akunda to worship Akunda.[23]
The exact status of the Faithless itself is unknown.
