The Elwynn kobolds are a clan[1] of kobolds originally from the Redridge Mountains[2] that can be found in the Elwynn Forest and Westfall.

History

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft This section concerns content related to the original World of Warcraft.

These kobolds used to dwell deep within the crags and rocky caves of the Redridge Mountains. However, by year 25 ADP, the kobolds had found themselves falling prey to the Riverpaw pack of gnolls. These cunning gnolls proved themselves to be merciless taskmasters, forcing the kobolds into an existence of never-ending drudgery. The gnolls were working with the Defias Brotherhood, who were plotting the destruction of Stormwind.[3] Since their enslavement, the kobolds had grown bitter and aggressive toward any creature that meddled with their ceaseless labor.[2]

Within the Northshire Valley of Elwynn Forest, the kobolds occupied Echo Ridge Mine and the woods outside of it. When Marshal McBride in Northshire Abbey found out about this, he directed adventurers to go and deal with the kobolds in the woods,[1] in the camp outside the mine,[4] and then the ones inside the mine.[5]

Elsewhere in the forest, the Fargodeep Mine and the Jasperlode Mine had also been invaded by kobolds. Marshal Dughan in Goldshire sent adventurers to investigate.[6][7] Some of the kobolds were carrying Gold Dust, which was of interest to Remy "Two Times",[8] and Large Candles, which were sought out by William Pestle.[9] Narg the Taskmaster could be found in Fargodeep, while in Jasperlode there was Ruklar the Trapper. The deepest recesses of the Jasperlode mine were also overrun by a colony of mine spiders who saw the hapless kobolds as tasty snacks.

Furthermore, in Fargodeep Mine, a kobold named Goldtooth had come into possession of "Auntie" Bernice Stonefield's necklace. Billy Maclure asked adventurers to recover it from him.[10]

In Westfall, kobold diggers could be found working in the Jangolode Mine, being overseen by the Defias Brotherhood.

Stormrage

During the War Against the Nightmare in 27 ADP, Marshal Dughan dreamt about being on a mission against kobolds in the Jasperlode Mine with Zaldimar Wefhellt, where he failed his men and himself.[11]

Cataclysm

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

After the Cataclysm in 28 ADP, the Echo Ridge mine was closed off, either due to a cave-in or by the humans. This dealt with the kobold infestation there. Though at least one kobold, Gug Fatcandle, can still be encountered near the entrance occasionally. In Fargodeep, Goldtooth had moved out of the mine and into his own den right above it.

In Westfall, the kobolds in Jangolode had gained more control of the mine, as the Defias had since left, though they were now seemingly working for or with the ogre mage Glubtok, who had moved in at some point and was running an extortion racket from there.[12] The Jangolode kobolds were targeted by Jimb "Candles" McHannigan, once William Pestle's number one candle supplier. Seeking revenge for the permanent limp the kobolds had given him, he asked adventurers to go into the mine and kill as many as they could.[13] After Glubtok joined the Defias Brotherhood and moved into the Deadmines, he presumably brought along the kobold diggers that could be found working near the entrance.[14]

Legion

Legion This section concerns content related to Legion.

During the third invasion of the Burning Legion in 32 ADP, the kobolds in Jangolode were attacked, and the mine was temporarily occupied by the demons.[15]
