    • Your spells and abilities have a chance to increase your Versatility by 39 for 8 sec, stacking up to 5 times. Being the victim of a loss of control or movement impairing effect also grants a stack of Strife.
Properties
Rank 2 Conflict increases the defensive benefit from your Versatility by 50% while you are stunned.
Strife lasts 14 seconds.
Rank 3 Conflict grants a stack of Strife when you dispel, interrupt, or apply a loss of control effect.
Strife stacks up to 8 times.
Rank 4 Conflict gains an enhanced appearance.

Conflict and Strife is an Azerite Essence obtained via rated PvP content.

PvP talent

[Conflict] grants a different PvP talent for each class and spec. The talent granted by Conflict can be used in any content, including PvE.

* [Necrotic Strike] has been removed from the PvP talents pane and replaced with [Necrotic Wounds]. However, Conflict wasn't updated to match this change and, as a result, it grants both.

Notes and trivia

  • Conflict's visual effect reportedly triggers when you kill a player in an arena, or when you capture a node or flag in a battleground.[1] One hotfix notes that it also triggers when you interrupt a target.
  • This essence was mentioned in the April Fools' Day patch 8.8.8.88888 notes: "Conflict and Strife is now only obtainable through Fishing."

Patch changes

  • Shadowlands Patch 9.1.0 (2021-06-29): Now additionally grants [Necrotic Wounds] for Unholy death knights.
  • Shadowlands Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13):
  • Battle for Azeroth Hotfix (2020-06-09):
    • [Conflict] Rank 2 now increases the defensive benefit of your Versatility by 50% while stunned (was 100%).
    • Resolved an issue that prevented Conflict Rank 2's effect from providing additional defensive benefit from Versatility under the effects of certain class stuns.
  • Battle for Azeroth Hotfix (2019-08-20): Learning new ranks of Conflict and Strife should now properly grant achievements such as  [Power Up].
  • Battle for Azeroth Hotfix (2019-08-14): Conflict and Strife's Rank 4 visual should now properly display when PvP events are triggered such as capturing a flag or interrupting a target.
  • Battle for Azeroth Hotfix (2019-07-18): Resolved an issue that caused some abilities granted by Conflict and Strife to be taught to a character twice.
  • Battle for Azeroth Hotfix (2019-07-17):
    • Conflict and Strife now uses a character's specialization PvP talent icon as the active ability button.
    • Fixed an issue that caused some PvP talents to display in the chat window that they have been learned when entering PvP combat, or have the PvP talent through Conflict and Strife.
  • Battle for Azeroth Patch 8.2.0 (2019-06-25): Added.
