History

Main article: Shen'dralar

The Athenaeum was formerly a great library within the Highborne city of Eldre'Thalas, and the home of the Shen'dralar order of arcanists. Following the War of the Ancients and the Sundering, the Shen'dralar remained secluded within the city, spending millennia filling the many bookshelves of the library with lost knowledge.

The Athenaeum was where adventurers turned in Librams to Lorekeeper Lydros, in order to receive the enchants they provide after completing the B [60D] Elven Legends quest.

Many Highborne were located here, some like Lorekeeper Mykos, Lorekeeper Kildrath and Lorekeeper Javon merely providing flavor information, but some, like the Shen'dralar Provisioner, offered their services. Prince Tortheldrin could also be found here, although he was not attackable until the void terror Immol'thar was killed.

After the prince was killed by the Horde in a raid on Dire Maul, the Athenaeum was abandoned as the Shen'dralar fled the ruined city.[1]

At the time of the Fourth War, Wrathion traveled here to learn more about the Old Gods and the Black Empire's dark magic, in order to find a way to defeat N'Zoth and turn his powers against him. He also mentioned in his journal that when the Horde heroes invaded Dire Maul and the Highborne fled the ruins, the majority of the knowledge contained within the Athenaeum was destroyed.[2]
