The Eye of Dalaran is the eleventh mission of the Horde campaign in Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal.
Mission briefing
With the Book of Medivh in your control and the Jeweled Scepter delivered to Ner'zhul, only one artifact remains to be won. The Mages of Dalaran have created a device to focus their magics in an effort to reconstruct the Violet Citadel. Ner'zhul desires this Eye of Dalaran to focus the dark powers of the underworld for the creation of his portals.
Teron Gorefiend has traveled to the stronghold of the Human Mages at Cross Island, where they now rebuild their towers amid heavy fortifications. You must break through their shoreline defenses, establish a base, and capture the Eye of Dalaran. No walls will protect them from the vengeance of the Horde.
Objectives
- Destroy all Mage Towers
- Destroy all of Dalaran (Violet)
Background
When Teron Gorefiend infiltrated the Violet Citadel, Antonidas rushed to intercept him. He found the death knights in the Arcane Vault, Dalaran's store for its most precious of relics. Alongside Krasus, Kael, and Sathera, Antonidas battled against the death knights who had come to steal the Eye of Dalaran for Ner'zhul. Sathera was killed, and the death knights escaped atop the backs of Deathwing and his black dragons.[1]
After stealing the Eye, Teron Gorefiend threw a coin in a fountain of Dalaran.
Kel'Thuzad had witnessed what the death knights did and became even more interested in necromancy after seeing what its power was capable of.[2]

Trivia
- The enemies for this mission should not actually be Lordaeron and Dalaran, but Gilneas and Dalaran. The western portion of the map would be located within Gilneas itself, as Dalaran bordered with Gilneas along the mountains.
- This, however, is impossible; as the black faction coloration (which is Gilneas' faction designation) is taken up by the player character, as the color is shared by the Shadowmoon clan.
- As a result, Lordaeron is used instead, fielding units they normally do not field when they appear in the campaign, such as heavy amounts of knights.
- Furthering this connection, Gilneas is shown as a wintery location on the map presented in Warcraft II: The Dark Saga, with this map being the only one to use that tileset in Beyond the Dark Portal. None of Lordaeron's territories are displayed in a winter climate.
- This error results in Gilneas not actually appearing at all in all of Warcraft II.
- Considering that Dalaran (or rather Cross Island) is the city on the upper-right corner, the map looks like those of Silverpine Forest and the Hillsbrad Foothills, with the wall of Southpoint Gate.
- Teron's survival is not a victory condition. Even if he dies, you'll still get to use him in the next mission.
