Objectives

Aid Eadweard Dalyngrigge and the Azerothian Archivists at The Big Dig in Traitor's Rest.

  • Complete The Big Dig: Traitor's Rest [26, 46]

Description

Don your cap, put on a pair of sturdy gloves, and grab a snack because Traitor's Rest is ready for Archivists everywhere to sink their history-craving teeth into!

Rewards

You will receive:

Progress

Not every day you unearth ancient dragon mysteries... or even a dragon themselves!

Completion

<Eadweard rustles through his unending robe pockets.>

Here you are, Archivist <name>! Take this to Provisioner Aristta for your compensation.

May I suggest a new set of clothes, as your current set is... quite soiled.

Notes

Area map

Head to western Azure Span to find Traitor's Rest on the southern shore between the Azure Archives and Iskaara.

On approach:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Ah, there you are, <name>. I'm chuffed you're here to help us here at Traitor's Rest. There's an epic story to be uncovered here, I just know it!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: As a lad, I loved dragons--as young children do--and was smitten with Sindragosa. I read all I could about her.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: When the Dragon Isles opened, I begged the Algeth'ar Academy to let me study the many volumes of Sindragosa's memoirs.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: In them found a brief mention of a battle at Traitor's Rest.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: I knew of Neltharion's connection to the place, but Sindragosa?
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: The Blue Dragons are staying mum, but clearly an epic story played out here.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: I must solve this mystery. For Sindragosa!

Eadweard has new gossip:

Are you just going to stand here, and let a frail, old, undead professor do all the heavy lifting instead?

Youth today...

  • Gossip What is this dig site?

This is the site of the famed Battle of Traitor's Rest between Neltharion's troops and all the cultures of the Dragon Isles from eons ago!

There's so much to be uncovered, discovered, and recovered here, and we're going to need all Archivists on deck to make it happen.

  • Gossip How does it work?

Archivists should come to me to receive a task. It could be inspecting relics, fixing polishing dragon bones, or even delivering lunch to our other members!

Once you complete a task, I'll write out any information gained in my tome here. The more pages I fill up, the closer we'll get to uncovering all of the secrets of this ancient battle.

But we have to do it all before we run out of time...

  • Gossip What happens when we run out of time?

There is a two-headed shadowflame-infused, malevolent beast of a dragon whose spirit rises up and attacks us once we start digging!

The more weapon-savvy Archivists in our group have vanquished it before, but it rises up again several minutes after we begin our archaeological work again.

So we must do as much as we can, even if it means repeating our cycle infinitely!

Scenario

The scenario runs hourly at the bottom of the hour (at xx:30) and the timed portion before the boss lasts for nine minutes. Players must collectively recover 1,000 pages to fill the bar by completing random tasks. Each bar filled is another tome awarded. Tomes are worth up to 100 reputation with the Archives, and can contain an uncollected cosmetic appearance (or the  [Clayscale Hornstrider] mount!). Collect all nine (across multiple runs of the event) to earn the  [Tome Comber] achievement, required for the meta:

Tomes also have a slim chance of dropping a  [Dragonhorn Flute], a  [Hole-Punched Bakar Tooth], or a  [Waterlogged Ledger], which start N [70] Curious Find: Dragonhorn Flute, N [70] Curious Find: Hole-Punched Bakar Tooth, and N [70] Curious Find: Waterlogged Ledger respectively.

Various exposed objects are sticking out of dirt piles near Eadweard. Interact with them while waiting for tasks to pick up 3-7x [Mysterious Fragment] each and upwards of 15 pages for Eadweard's collection, though watch out as a Neltharion Spirit or Slobbering Raider may occasionally pop out! Interact with all nine objects to earn  [Relic Rescuer], also required for the meta:

During the event in Week 1:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: We've uncovered clues that suggest a large group of people were camping here temporarily. Hm. Intriguing!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: More clues lead to more accurate reconstructions. Were the people here scholars? A wandering people? An army?
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: What we've found points to an undertaking of some import. How exciting!

During the event in Week 2:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Oh, what an interesting find. Yes. Yes! Maybe we can finally know the nature of the beast here!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: The more we find, the more we will learn. Will we find tools? Potsherds? Weapons?
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: We've almost made a breakthrough, I just know it. Keep working, everyone!

During the event in Week 3:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Oh ho! There is definitely a story here--and some heroic figures to uncover!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: A clue pointing to a courageous plan? The plot thickens!

During the event in Week 4:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Looks like there was a lot of hustling and bustling about. And moving something carefully!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Hm, not only were they protecting against the proto-dragon, but they were protecting something as well.

During the event in Week 5:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Hmm, it seems like not everything went according to plan!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: This clue may tell us why this area is called "Traitor's Rest".
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Evidence of an old villain making an appearance. I should have guessed we'd find him here...

During the event in Week 6:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Ah ha! So, they did survive!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Why didn't I see this before? Only a dragon could be responsible for this!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: If these findings are correct, there may have been a happy ending here after all.

Tasks

Much like the Community Feast public event in Iskaara, Eadweard will offer one task from a large set of tasks to players near him.

Each week this quest is completed, Eadward adds a page to The Story of Traitor's Rest, located right next to him. He also has a closing speech:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: In no small part to Zenata's excellent technoscrying goggles, Roska's knack for excavation, and Nirobin's astute assessment of clues, we have been able to determine several tantalizing facts here at Traitor's Rest.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: A very large contingent of blue dragonflight drakonid and dragonspawn soldiers traveled here from the Azure Archives to meet a "Scalecommander Abereth" and his weyrn.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: From what we know of Abereth and his activities outside of Traitor's Rest, he may have been disobeying orders in journeying to Traitor's Rest.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: They clearly believed Neltharion would attack this position--and they were right. But why?
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Mysteries within mysteries!

Week two:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Once again, the team has put their heads together to assemble the puzzle pieces that are the clues we have found at Traitor's Rest.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Scalecommander Abereth was indeed here and collaborating with the blue dragonkin army that had moved in from the Azure Archives.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: But what is more interesting is the weaponry they brought. Massive spears of djaradin make and strong nets of tuskarr design.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: We've found two names associated with this new-found arsenal. Gharrin--a djaradin of unknown clan--and Umtila, a tuskarr strategist that appears a few times in tuskarr oral histories.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: It appears after diplomatic talks with the centaur fell through, the tuskarr sought out the djaradin!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Now, with all these groups assembled, what was their plan?

Week three:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: With your help, Zenata was able to scry the area while Nirobin and I translated the draconic, tuskarr, and djaradin writings we have found here.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: And what an adventure has unfolded! Gharrin, djaradin bane of dragons and proto-dragons alike, had volunteered to be "bait" for the monster.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: It seems Umtila was upset at the prospect--more upset than you would expect a tuskarr to be over a djaradin.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: I just wonder... Was this an unlikely friendship or something else?
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Romantic musings aside, we found important information in their missives giving us proof of Neltharion's involvement.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: But we still don't know what Neltharion would want with Traitor's Rest!

Week four:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: This is turning out to be a saga for the ages, <name>. It has it all: war, iconic heroes and villains, romance--and intrigue!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Clues we have uncovered point to objects and artifacts being moved from the Azure Archives here and then on to other destinations for safekeeping.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: It appears that Sindragosa got word that Neltharion planned to steal a tome of some import from the Azure Archives.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: She did not know which one, but she had her suspicions. She feared Traitor's Rest may be a distraction, but couldn't chance it.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: And, dear <name>, I held a scrap of paper that Sindragosa wrote and touched! It's enough to get my heart beating again!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Ahem! But, we still don't know how our esteemed group achieved victory! Back to our goggles, shovels, and papers!

Week five:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Well! We can add another enticing turn to our story: betrayal!
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Roska's excavations have uncovered the body of Gharrin, our "hero" djaradin.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: The "turn" in our story is that Gharrin was in fact a "turncoat" and in league with Neltharion. He and his men fought Abereth and Umtila's forces as the proto-dragon made its attack.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: It appears that Gharrin fell early in the battle. And Umtila's bone dagger was found near his remains. We do not know what happened to Umtila or Abereth.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Their lines were broken, and Neltharion's two-headed experiment was not contained.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: It's uncertain what finally caused its demise. But, I'm sure this mystery can also be solved! Onward!

Week six:

Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: We now know what happened to Umtila and Abereth.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: As the last two heroes standing, they were able to stall the monstrosity long enough for help to arrive--in the form of Sindragosa herself.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Once Sindragosa had confronted Neltharion at the Azure Archives and knew for sure the tome he desired was hidden elsewhere, she came to our heroes' aid in their time of direst need.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Indeed, some of the wounds inflicted on this beast could have only been made by a dragon of Sindragosa's size.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: The name of the tome has been lost to the ages, but for now, the story of Traitor's Rest has been told. I feel so much closer to my childhood hero, Sindragosa.
Eadweard Dalyngrigge says: Thank you, <name>. I look forward to uncovering more mysteries with you in the future!
