The Story of Traitor's Rest

A Journal of Discovery

By

Archbishop Emeritus Eadweard Dalyngrigge

Dedicated to my esteemed colleagues without whom these discoveries would not have been made:

Nirobin, scholar nonpareil
Roska Rocktooth, for whom no rock is too hard or artifact too delicate
Zenata, whose foresight is our hindsight
<Name>, our best and brightest

and also to the blue fire who lighted the dreams of my youth,

Sindragosa

TRAITOR'S REST

Week 1:

The expedition began in earnest this week, and we have already made some startling discoveries about the site.

There were many, many dracthyr soldiers here, and we believe they were under the command of Scalecommander Abereth. Nirobin has encountered this name before, and believes him to be a dracthyr at odds with Neltharion's command.

Knowing that the Blue dragonflight believed that Neltharion would attack the area soon, Abereth must have made the journey on his own recognizance. The Blue Dragonflight had sent its own army of dragonkin and dragonspawn to the site as well based on what we have unearthed.

But why were they here? What were they protecting?

TRAITOR'S REST

Week 2:

We confirmed Abereth's involvement at Traitor's Rest, but there were also other intriguing developments.

Found at the site were massive spears of djaradin make and strong nets of tuskarr design.

We've also found two names associated with this new-found arsenal: Gharrin--a djaradin of unknown clan-- and Umtila, a tuskarr strategist that appears a few times in tuskarr oral histories.

It appears after diplomatic talks with the centaur fell through, the tuskarr sought out the djaradin! Still, we do not know why they were here and what they were trying to protect!

TRAITOR'S REST

Week 3

The plan seems to be unfolding in front of us!

Gharrin volunteered to "bait" the two-headed monster that Neltharion sent to harangue them. Umtila was seemingly upset at this prospect which leads me personally to believe there was something more to their relationship than a simple alliance.

This inference was not well received at camp, but no one could deny there were certain "underpinnings."

Most importantly however, we have now definite proof of Neltharion's involvement from their documents.

TRAITOR'S REST

Week 4

What a triumphant week we have had! Clues we have uncovered point to objects and artifacts being moved from the Azure Archives here and then on to other destinations for safekeeping.

It appears that Sindragosa got word that Neltharion planned to steal a tome of some import from the Azure Archives. She did not know which one, but she had her suspicions. She feared Traitor's Rest may be a distraction, but couldn't chance it.

<The script becomes looping as Eadweard writes the last few sentences of this page.>

And I have found a piece of history most precious to me: a scrap of paper that Sindragosa touched and put her quill to.

If I were a lesser man, I would keep it for myself. But, alas, history must be preserved!

 TRAITOR'S REST

Week 5

If this dig site were a novel I was reading, I would not be able to put it down!

Gharrin, our "hero" djaradin, was in fact a "turncoat" and in league with Neltharion. He and his men fought Abereth and Umtila's forces as Neltharion's proto-dragon made its attack.

It appears that Gharrin fell early in the battle. And Umtila's bone dagger was found near his remains. If what I suspected about them were true, I would not have blamed her for felling the man herself!

We do not as yet know what happened to Umtila or Abereth, but we know Neltharion's two-headed experiment was not contained.

It's uncertain so far what finally caused its demise.

TRAITOR'S REST

Week 6

<This entry is written shakily as if Eadweard could not contain his enthusiasm.>

We now know what happened to Umtila and Abereth. As the last two heroes standing, they were able to stall the monstrosity long enough for help to arrive--in the form of Sindragosa herself.

Once Sindragosa had confronted Neltharion at the Azure Archives and knew for sure the tome he desired was hidden elsewhere, she came to our heroes' aid in their time of direst need. Indeed, some of the wounds inflicted on this beast could have only been made by a dragon of Sindragosa's size.

The name of the tome has been lost to the ages, but for now, the story of Traitor's Rest has been told.

Rest easy, dear Sindragosa, for another chapter of your tale has been told!
