Nested recipe tooltips

This currently causes recipes to display a tooltip within a tooltip. Can you edit this so that the created item is linked rather than embedded? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:47, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

This is, at least in part, intentional -- we've never been able to properly include information about the item created in the recipe tooltip before, and I wanted to see if that's useful now that we can do it properly. The current nesting looks okay to me ( [Recipe: Vial of the Sands] is an example), so I'd like to hear a bit more about what makes the old behavior more desirable before making changes. — foxlit (talk) 22:13, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
To me, it seems like it would be better to be able to mouse over the name of the item and see the tooltip rather than have it embedded within another tooltip. While it may not look TOO terrible on Vial of the Sands (I disagree that it looks okay), something with a longer tooltip than a mount (like  [Plans: Imperial Plate Shoulders]) would be absolutely ridiculous. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:39, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
There are situations when you can't mouse over an item link: it might already be in a hover tooltip, or perhaps javascript is disabled. Recipe vendor pages, like Sal Farraga, would certinly be a lot less awkward with nested tooltips.
It bears pointing out that the "absolutely ridiculous" nesting format is used by virtually everything: the WoW client, community site, wowhead, sigrie all display information about the item being made -- because it's useful, and perhaps not quite as ridiculous as you would imagine.
Based on your example, I think you're objecting over the increased length of the tooltip -- but since  [Plans: Imperial Plate Shoulders] doesn't actually use itemtip, it's a bit hard to actually figure out what that'd look like, and whether we need to change anything. I'd say give it time; if there are non-hypothetical pages that end up being negatively impacted by this, we can always look at ways of making it even more awesome. — foxlit (talk) 13:40, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
If it becomes too troublesome, we could put the created item to the side like we do the dual-faction tooltips. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:52, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Itemlink

Is there an argument to prevent the page from being item-linked? We need it for things like Frostmourne, Ashbringer, and the Skull of Gul'dan which should never be linked as items. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 22:01, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

|noilink= will suppress the defaultlink formatting. --k_d3 19:04, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Frostmourne, Ashbringer, Skull of Gul'dan. Note that there's no tool/itemtip on Skull of Gul'dan anyway...--k_d3 19:08, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
After a quick discussion on IRC, I implemented another solution that doesn't use the noilink parameter, which may not be long for the world. See Frostmourne vs  [Frostmourne], Ashbringer vs  [Ashbringer]. If we wind up with another artifact that gets a tooltip or a blizz display, this'll probably be the solution we use going forward. --k_d3 17:49, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
That's probably a better solution anyway. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:14, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Vendor cost

Just curious, what was the rationale behind removing the cost that vendors sell items for from the tooltip? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 22:58, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Tooltip's |vendor= argument was only used on the item's own page, where the "Source" section typically provides a more readable description of how the item can be acquired. It's the difference between "Vendor: 1 Leggings of the Forgotten Vanquisher" in a tooltip miles down the page, and "... in exchange for  [Leggings of the Forgotten Vanquisher]" rather close to the top (see for instance Thunderheart Leggings). — foxlit (talk) 13:02, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Alright, that makes sense. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:14, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

ifexpr vs. plural

Maybe ? Strizh (talk) 15:08, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Certain template arguments can't be set in stone

Attributes, resistances, sockets, and effects are currently regimented and cannot be changed. This isn't the way the actual tooltips are in the game and the armory; they are often placed differently and not in line with some set list. We need to be able to adjust such stats as necessary. Meta sockets are not always placed last. Crit. strike is not always place before haste rating. If I was a first-time visitor to Wowpedia and started comparing such things to the Armory and Wowhead, it would make me wonder why Wowpedia's tool tips are not accurate, and what else might not be accurate. I realize that changing this is likely not easy, but honestly it's driving me up the wall.--Mondoblasto (talk) 21:32, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Do you have an example of items that are different compared to in-game and on Wowpedia? --g0urra[T҂C] 21:44, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Inconsistencies in the Blizzard template—which we've known about forever, if such a template even exists—are inconsistencies we can't deal with. Changing it is honestly out of the question. --Sky (talk) 12:59, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
[Drape of Neferset Destruction]  [Furious Gladiator's Chain Helm]  [Demon Stalker Gauntlets] Pretty much all Cata crafted armor (I'm a LW)--Mondoblasto (talk) 22:45, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Even so, we need to be able to make it accurate. If there isn't a way to make those sections of the template arguements more flexible, maybe we ought to just use the old system for the ones that don't quite fit.--Mondoblasto (talk) 22:45, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
I completely disagree; I see no reason to leave those few items which are inconsistent with the general template to continue being inconsistent, and I don't see "accuracy" as being an overriding concern. --Sky (talk) 03:54, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Arena Season

Patch 4.2 added an arena season tag to item tooltips. Can someone add this to the template? Look up any Vicious Gladiator item on Wowhead for an example. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:25, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

It should be possible to use |tag=Season 10 for this purpose. — foxlit (talk) 21:35, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Sockets

[Shadowmourne] and  [Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest] both have three red sockets, but the template is only displaying two. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:41, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Fixed. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:04, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Pattern Sell prices

Just noticed this, but shouldn't the sell price of the recipes come before the item they create, rather than after like seen on this page:  [Pattern: Triple-Reinforced Mining Bag]? Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 07:21, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Spacing

Can someone fix the spacings that has now been created after the template was modified? See  [Earthshape Pauldrons] for an example. --g0urra[T҂C] 07:09, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

I tried to replicate the spacing Blizz added in the post-5.1 tooltips. (Look at them in-game, not on wowhead/wowdb/the armory). If it's too much vertical space it's easy to remove them -- I specifically made them all <li>&nbsp;</li>.
As mentioned in the edit summary - I'm still missing spacing for the non-straightfoward stat buff equip bonuses/use: lines cases. --k_d3 18:17, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
I see... I haven't been able to see it in-game for myself, that's why I was asking. --g0urra[T҂C] 10:10, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Stats missing on Wowhead tooltip updates

I recently noticed that updating items that has haste/crit/hit/mastery etc. on them will remove that stat. Can the template and/or item update script be changed to reflect the change on Wowhead? --g0urra[T҂C] 07:21, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Please provide an example. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:50, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Item level

Why is the Item level only showing for just armor types and weapons? Should show it also for the other items too unless there is a great explanation why. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 04:59, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

I believe its because the item level on gear/weapons are the only time its really important, seeing that a food item which requires level 60 and also having a ilvl of 60 not really important. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:08, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
Well I've seen item levels in-game for foods and other stuff before but this is a great explanation for this. Thanks coobra. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 05:10, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

New stat

New stat type? Readiness. You can find examples on these items: Bounty Reward Agi,  [Giantstalker's Guile]. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 16:17, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

There's ~7 new stats. We also need to account for the other WoD changes. I laid out some ideas back during BlizzCon at Forum:Warlords item tooltips, but we're kinda holding off until Blizz has everything nailed down (and we can actually see tooltips in-game). --k_d3 21:14, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Legion Relics

Artifact weapons can have up to two relic slots of the same type. See for example Icebringer. Currently the template supports up to one slot of the same type only.
— With kittens (talk) 19:13, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

It now supports it.  [Icebringer]. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:26, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

On hit

The |onhit= argument currently displays "Chance on Hit" when it's actually "Chance on hit". It's not huge, but would be nice to have it accurate.Mondoblasto (talk) 13:29, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Tags in yellow text & Purpose

From what I can see "purpose" isn't listed in this template. While on the Legion beta, I've seen follower equipment with "Follower Equipment" written just under the item name. Should that be added to the template aswell, or is there a similar function to "purpose" that lets you write a tag but in yellow? PeterWind (talk) 12:13, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Fixed damage

I made the page for  [Karabor Arcanist Wand] and the tooltip just says "72 damge", no high or low. Do we have a string for weapons with fixed amounts of damage? PeterWind (talk) 15:28, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

I don't think so, its pretty rare for a weapon to not have a high/low. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 19:10, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Yeah I can't recall having seen it before either. Checked ingame and it's the same. I just put 72 in as dmglow and dmghigh for now. PeterWind (talk) 21:59, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Random enchants

i'd like to request for randomsuffix to put items that have it into a category—something like "Category:Items with random enchantments". a lot of items' enchants need an update pretty badly, and it'd be easiest if they were all together & easy to find

plus, it would be pretty interesting to see the full list of 'em :0 -- Eithris (talk) 23:06, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

That would be pretty close to Category:World drops wouldn't it? --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:09, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
not entirely. most random enchantment items are world drops, but there are a lot of "concrete" world drops too, and there are even a few random enchant items from different sources (certain crafted items like  [Brilliant Burnished Cloak], items from Satchel of Helpful Goods) -- Eithris (talk) 23:41, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
There is a lot of overlap though. Not sure how useful it would be. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:48, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
ye, i suppose in the big picture it wouldn't be all that useful. honestly it doesn't have to be permanent if you don't think it's worth having, i'm mainly looking to get a full list of what items have random enchant sections that might need updating. while organizing the world drops i've noticed a lot of "+bonus armor" and "+spirit" and non-squished stats -- Eithris (talk) 00:14, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
I've added Category:World of Warcraft items with a random enchant. --PcjWowpedia admin (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:18, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
hoo, that's a lot more than i thought there were! looks like quite a few there that should be in the world drops cat but aren't
anyway, i've copied them all into a word doc, so you can undo it now if you want. thank you :) -- Eithris (talk) 00:48, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

Relinquished tokens

Is there any way to get the item level to display on command for things like Relinquished tokens? It's important to see the level of item you will receive. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 17:56, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

Default icon

Making the File:Inv misc questionmark.png the default icon would help too (when the icon argument contains nothing), especially for items that we have yet to figure out the name for the icon. An example of this would be  [Shu-Zen, the Divine Sentinel]. As of right now, the name of the icon is unknown... even Wowhead has the icon on their server but the name of it is just numbers. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 04:16, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Yeah wowhead seems to do this for items not yet on the armory. PeterWind (talk) 05:56, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

BtA

Example

Change Binds to Blizzard Battle.net account to Binds to Blizzard account Reason?

 1. Go in-game
 2. Copy-paste this following code in the chat: /script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("\124cffa335ee\124Hitem:163128::::::::120:::::\124h[War-Torn Reins of the Undercity Plaguebat]\124h\124r");
 3. Click the item linked
 4. That is the BoA in-game; while we are currently following Wowhead's name for BoA

I even provided an example image of the results above by linking that item in-game.

Azerite Armor

Example

Proposal: Apply this file as an overlay on the Azerite armor's icon. It'd be cool to identify Azerite Armor from the base armor just by this look, adding a parameter like |azerite= which also places the said Azerite Armor in the Category:Azerite armor category. Could also use the modified game's tooltip where each corner has a Azerite look to it. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 06:56, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

UPDATE: We really need to implement something to indicate that the item is a Azerite Armor as well as provide something to show x Azerite Powers, similarly to how Wowhead has it (I don't remember how it looks in-game) Here is an example of a Azerite Armor we have on Wowpedia:  [Molded War Machine Grill]. Here is the Wowhead link. If someone could provide a screenshot of an Azerite's Armor tooltip from in-game, that'd be appreciated to provide a in-game reference on how it should work (be sure to disable addons that change anything with the tooltip UI). — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 13:38, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Actually, it might be best to hold off on the "Active Azerite Powers" part according to this. Not sure how it should be displayed for Wowpedia. There are currently 2 types of the number of rings an Azerite Armor can have as shown here. Patch 8.1.0 is introducing another ring for the newer tier of Azerite Armor, so this one will be the middle ground while the new armor in 8.1 can come with an additional ring. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 14:06, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Okay, here is what I said on Slack: Maybe include the "Active Azerite Powers" by a number (3, 4, 5); it will go base on the the number of rings it has (including the middle one as a ring). So that screenshot MMWQ provided, it'll have 3 rings (although it is two, with the center part) So maybe like this |azerite=3 would provide "Active Azerite Powers (0/3)". What do you guys think? Instead of including the "A new power is available" or "No powers have been selected" like the official website and Wowhead.. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 14:32, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Add an other-faction param?

heya, would it be possible to add an other-faction param to this template, like questbox has? i think it'd be a nice shortcut for pvp reward items that have a version for each faction (a la Field Marshal's items always having a Warlord's equivalent, and vice versa) --Eithris (talk) 21:47, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

No problem for me, as long as someone can code it Xporc (talk) 21:55, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
Aren't most of these just added to the see also section? — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 22:00, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
eh, i feel like it ought to be pretty prominent for faction-exclusive pvp items. since a lot of folks main one faction and will only need one of the two pages, it makes sense to me to do a "you might be interested in this instead" (hatnote) rather than "you read this far, so you might also be interested in this" (section)
also, i've realized other-faction might not work because not all faction-specific items say that they're faction specific in the tooltip, so there's no way to automatically know what the "other faction" is :thonk: so i guess it would need two params. maybe like this? so it shows up if one of the two parameters is defined, but not if both are because that would make no sense. {{#switch:{}{}|{hordeversion}={{for|the Horde equivalent|{hordeversion}}}|{allianceversion}={{for|the Alliance equivalent|{allianceversion}}}|}}
i do worry about whether adding something like that could mess anything up, eheh. this template looks like... a bit of a behemoth under the hood. so if this won't work for any reason then i can just keep doing it manually, of course --Eithris (talk) 00:52, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
Using Template:Versions/AH for this is preferred as it sets a cookie on the user's choice and will show that to the user going forward. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:21, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
ah, i'm not talking about that kind of version, in this case. i mean equivalent-but-different items--like how  [Field Marshal's Dragonhide Breastplate] is equivalent to  [Warlord's Dragonhide Hauberk]. my question if it'd be possible to fold the disambig line those pages have into the itemtip template, rather than needing to paste it on every page that's like that --Eithris (talk) 01:42, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
Mmm, I don't think it's a good idea to extend out itemtip like that. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:07, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Aye Xporc (talk) 09:02, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
ah, looks like i've hecked up: i assumed "ucfirst" would automatically make the rest of the letters lowercase, but it doesn't. so and will need to be changed to and
ty, and apologies for not looking into that a bit more! —Eithris (talk) 04:07, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

can i get changed to please? —Eithris (talk) 02:39, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
