The Shadowy Figure is a mysterious entity seen throughout Azeroth during the Season of Discovery.

She first appears after destroying  [The Box] at the Shard of Pure Light at [87, 72] near Ravenholdt Manor in the Alterac Mountains. Speaking with her allows players to learn the recipes for Void-Touched armor.

During the quest N [40R] Warranty Claim, she will randomly appear while killing any mob after obtaining a  [Spent Voidcore] to offer a [Mote of Darkness] to recharge it.

Later, she worked with Ziri "The Wrench" Littlesprocket and a gnomish knight, trying to have him kill the Nightmare Amalgamation for her by using Void-Powered Vambraces.

Alterac Mountains

<The shifting cloud of shadows appears before you in a vaguely humanoid outline. While it's difficult to make out specific features, you get the distinct impression that this creature is smirking at you.>

So, you were able to destroy it after all. How.. boring.

Gossip Who are you and what do you want?

Don't worry about who I am. Consider instead what I can do *for* you.

Gossip I'm quite certain I don't want anything from... whatever it is you are.

Don't you? I wouldn't be so sure.

That bauble you have there, the little black crystal. It's... something special. Something that shouldn't be wasted sitting at the bottom of your pack along with bloody rags and crumbs of stale bread. I can tell you how to use it. How to harness it.

Gossip This should be destroyed, not used. People have died for this.

*Tsk*

There you, go, being entirely boring again. I'm starting to think that maybe this wasn't such a good idea. Fine, do as you will. Cast it into the fires of Blackrock, or deep into the Maelstrom. Make sure its thoroughly lost.

You see though... these things don't tend to stay lost forever.

Gossip Your Point?

My point... is that you don't know who's going to find it. I can think of no more stalwart, heroic, just, and noble creature than yourself to bear it... and take advantage of its gifts.

I can show you. A snap of the fingers, and I can show you how to use it to make something... truly special. You need only say the word.

  • Gossip I want nothing from you. Leave me be.

Your tabard should say "I'm Boring" on it, because that's just what you are.

Very well. You know how to find me when you inevitably change your mind.

  • Gossip Fine, show me. If only to stop your prattling.

Excellent! I've just left my... mark on you. I think that next time you sit down at the crafting bench you'll find yourself to be quite inspired. Just remember, you only have the one shard, so use it wisely. Farewell, adventurer. Go... destroy evil or whatever it is you lot do.

N [40R] Warranty Claim

Well isn't this a fun bit of serendipity? You need something and I just so happen to have exactly what you are looking for.

Gossip You again. What do you want?

I want to help you, of course. That voidcore you carry... it's well and truly spent.

But I could help you charge it.

<The Shadowy Figure raises its hand and a tiny mote of energy floats a few inches a few inches above its palm>

Gossip And what might this assistance cost me?

Nothing of course! The benefits of altruism are not lost on me, and I very much enjoy cultivating mutually beneficial relationships. Who knows... there may be a time when you are in a position to help me and may find yourself feeling similarly altruistic.

Gossip <Remain silent and hold out your hand>

<The tiny floating speck of energy floats over into your waiting palm.>

There's a smart <class>. Use it well, and enjoy!

N [50] A Fortuitous Turn of Events

<You can't make out the entity's facial expression, but you get the distinct impression it is smiling at you.>

Gossip Okay, make it quick.

You likely know of the gnomish mechanic, Ziri Littlesprocket? Well, she's quite the genius, and was kind enough to lend me her talents to help me create something that I think you'll find incredibly useful in your current predicament...

A set of void-powered vambraces, constructed utilizing a particularly impressive piece of gnomish technology that "someone" was kind enough to find and repair for her.

Gossip Impressive gnomish technology that "someone" recovered, eh? Let me guess, these special bracelets utilize a Pristine G-7 C.O.R.E. Processor Unit?

How astute! I'm glad you are able to keep up. At any rate, Ziri was feeling inexplicably inspired when she created this item and it has some truly astonishing properties. Not the least of which being able to impart a portion of my willpower upon the bearer, and shield them from, let's say, external mental interference. Such as, for example, an aura of all-encompassing dread.

Gossip How convenient, you seem to have just what I need.

Ah, if only that were so. Unfortunately, I recently lent the vambraces to someone who has proven to be, regrettably, quite the disappointment. You see, you aren't the only adventurer with whom I've treated with. There was another adventurer of some apparent renown whom I recently recruited and equipped with this item, in hopes that he would venture into the dream and dispose of this nightmare beast for the good of Azeroth. It seems, however, that he's in dereliction of his duty. He's also dropped from my sight, so if I had to guess, I'd bet on him lying dead in a ditch somewhere.

Gossip Very well, what must I do?

Unfortunately, that is going to be the tricky part. Since he is no longer wearing the bracers, I've completely lost track of him. I need you to go out into the wide world and find this adventurer, dead or alive, and recover the Void-Powered Vambraces. He is a gnomish warrior, and I was last aware of his presence somewhere in the Eastern Kingdoms. It's not much to go on, but you are nothing if not resourceful, so I'm sure you'll find a way.

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

It is theorized that this may be a manifestation of Xal'atath. Though she was still trapped within her dagger at the time, it is as yet unknown where it was during this era, or who held it, and Xal'atath has previously shown the ability to communicate and possess dead bodies before being severed from the blade.[1]
