An ominous island served as a rest stop in the Great Sea during Korialstrasz and Rhonin's trip from the Eastern Kingdoms to Kalimdor after the Third War. The island was almost entirely bare of vegetation and held a series of small ruined structures that appeared to have been either a fort or a walled estate. Upon approaching the island, Rhonin felt a sense of dread and experienced mournful cries, comparing it to when he flew over Tol Barad before the Battle of Grim Batol, and heard the cries of that island's restless spirits. Korialstrasz felt that something tragic had happened there, but could not say what.[1]

During Korialstrasz and Rhonin's rest on a promontory overlooking the ruins, some type of ghouls attacked them and manipulated their dreams. They managed to wake up, somehow finding themselves in one of the ruined buildings. The creatures were described as having glowing red eyes, much-too-long limbs, three-fingered hands, and needle-sharp teeth, and one that attacked Rhonin wore the remains of regal clothing. After a small fight, the mages emerged victorious and then quickly escaped from the island.[1]

Rhonin asked Krasus what they could have been. While the dragon believed the creatures to have once been the human inhabitants of the island, he only knew that their current state was the result of something even older and more unholy than anything the Scourge ever created. He further believed that there were catacombs below the island where the ghouls rested when not hunting. Krasus stated that after his and Rhonin's mission was over, he would return to end the abominations.[1]

Following their flight path to Kalimdor, and Korialstrasz's statement that they would need rest before passing near the Maelstrom, this island would be somewhere to the north and east of the Maelstrom.
