They rained from a colossal portal that ripped through the air like thin cloth. The noise was terrible, a great wailing through the cosmos as their wrongness rendered it asunder. There were so many, and we were so woefully unprepared. They consumed everything in their path and as many as we killed, hundreds more poured forth from the rift.
I witnessed much courage that day. None faltered in the face of this impossible foe. We surely would have stood to the last kyrian were it not for the call to retreat to Elysian Hold. My fellow ascended and I gathered as many aspirants as we could into our arms, but we knew that many would be left to die. I looked to my Paragon for guidance but what I saw in her face chilled me to my core.
She looked to the horizon, to the great rift, with resolve etched into her very being.
