"My Paragon!" I cried out to her, "We must retreat!"
"You need time." She uttered, though her gaze never strayed from the horror unfolding before us.
"The temple is lost! We cannot prevail! Do not sacrifice yourself for nothing!" I shouted.
"I am nothing." She looked at me then. In that gaze I felt all the warmth and joy that I had come to know so well. She spoke as if teasing me. Reminding me of what I should already know.
I did not answer. She flew into the body of the beast, to the heart of the onslaught, with a trail of monsters following hot on her heels. She drew them away. They clustered around her, drawn in by the anima bound in her person. She held her own as long as she could. I did not watch. I could not watch. By the time her battle was lost, we made good on our escape.
Reinforcements arrived from Maldraxxus and the battle was won not long thereafter.
