Mercia's Legacy: Chapter Two
She turned me away.
I felt the ground beneath me peel away as she bade me leave her temple. Surely, there was some mistake. Had I not spoken true? I asked--practically demanded!--to know why I would not be admitted. She answered with the softest smile, her tone bemused.
"Humility," She began, "Is not merely the absence of pride."
"Then what is it?" I pressed.
"Humility is the unencumbered measure of your worth." She watched, and she must have found my expression amusing for her smile grew.
"Meditate on this and return to me when you are ready."
