Kurog Grimtotem is a boss in Vault of the Incarnates.

Adventure Guide

Once a prized pupil of Magatha Grimtotem, this master of the primal elements is preparing to unleash his most devastating creations. If Kurog is not stopped, his entities of storm, fire, ice, and earth will wreak havoc across the whole of Azeroth.

Overview

Kurog Grimtotem gains increasing dominance over an element while nearby its altar within The Primal Convergence. Upon reaching 100 energy, Kurog summons two elementals according to his levels of elemental dominance. After summoning forth an elemental from each altar, Kurog achieves Primal Attunement.

Damage Dealer Alert Damage Dealers

  • Earth Breakers continually cast Skeletal Fractures.
  • The longer Kurog's elementals remain alive, the more damage they do.
  • Each time Kurog approaches a primal altar or casts an ultimate ability, he summons an elemental.

Healer Alert Healers

  • While next to a Primal Altar, Kurog Grimtotem continually inflicts that altar's elemental damage to all players.
  • When Kurog Grimtotem moves between active altars, he casts Elemental Shift.

Tank Alert Tanks

  • Sundering Strike applies stacking Physical damage over time.
  • While not next to an active Primal Altar, Kurog Grimtotem casts Elemental Surge.
  • Each time Kurog approaches a primal altar or casts an ultimate ability, he summons an elemental.

Stage One: Elemental Dominance

Kurog gains new abilities while near an elemental altar in The Primal Convergence.

  • Spell fire elementaldevastation.png Primal Shift Heroic Difficulty Important — Kurog attunes to a primal altar, inflicting X Elemental damage to all players and applying Primal Break.
    • Spell fire masterofelements.png Primal Break — Increases damage taken from Primal Shift by 300% for 20 sec. This effect stacks.
  • Spell holy fistofjustice.png Sundering Strike Tank Alert — Kurog unleashes an attack at his current target, inflicting X Elemental damage to players in a frontal cone and knocking them back. Additionally, players suffer Y Elemental damage every 1 sec for 35 sec. This effect stacks.
  • Spell fire masterofelements.png Elemental Surge Deadly — Kurog periodically surges with the power of all four altars while standing in the center of the chamber, inflicting X Elemental damage to all players every 0.5 sec. This effect stacks.
  • Altar of Flame
    • Spell fire immolation.png Flame Dominance — Kurog inflicts X Fire damage to all players every 4 sec while attuned to the Altar of Flame. Increases the damage of Flame Dominance by 10%. This effect stacks.
    • Ability rhyolith magmaflow wave.png Magma Burst — Kurog hurls magma at random players, inflicting X Fire damage and causes a Magma Pool to form at their destination.

    • Spell shaman lavasurge.png Molten Rupture Heroic Difficulty — Kurog unleashes waves of lava, inflicting X Fire damage to players caught in their path.
    • Spell fire moltenblood.png Searing Carnage Important — The caster infuses players with fire, causing them to mark their current location every 1 sec for 5 sec. The marked location explodes after 2 sec, inflicting X Fire damage to players within 5 yards.
    • Flamewrought Eradicator Mythic Difficulty
      • Ability mage firestarter.png Flame Smite Tank Alert — The caster unleashes flames at its current target, inflicting X Fire damage to players in a frontal cone. Flames land nearby, inflicting Y Fire damage to players within 4 yards of impact locations.
      • Ability rhyolith lavapool.png Raging Inferno — The Flamewrought Eradicator ignites Magma Pools within the chamber, creating Raging Infernos. Players who stand within a Raging Inferno suffer X Fire damage every 1 sec and reduce its flame. After 15 sec a Smoldering Hellion emerges from each Raging Inferno.
  • Altar of Frost
    • Ability deathknight icygrip.png Frost Dominance — Kurog inflicts X Frost damage to all players every 4 sec while attuned to the Altar of Frost. Increases the damage of Frost Dominance by 10%. This effect stacks.
    • Spell frost arcticwinds.png Biting Chill — Kurog afflicts all players with a biting chill that inflicts X Frost damage every 1 sec for 10 sec.
    • Spell frost ring of frost.png Frigid Torrent Heroic Difficulty Magic Effect — The caster creates waves of frozen orbs every 2 sec for 4 sec, knocking players within 4 yard away as they form. Each orb inflicts X Frost damage to any player in its path and stuns them for 6 sec.
    • Spell frost glacier.png Absolute Zero Important — The caster hurls a chunk of ice at a player, inflicting X Frost damage split evenly among players within 8 yards upon impact.
      • WarningOn Heroic difficulty, Absolute Zero also applies Frost Bite.
      • Ability mage coldasice.png Frost Bite — The impact of Absolute Zero chills players to the bone. Upon reaching 2 applications, the player becomes Frozen Solid.
        • Ability mage chilledtothebone.png Frozen Solid — The chill causes the player to become incapacitated and inflicts X Frost damage every 1 sec for 10 sec. This effect cannot be mitigated or avoided.
    • Frostwrought Dominator Mythic Difficulty
      • Spell deathknight iceboundfortitude.png Frost Smite Tank Alert — The caster unleashes frost at its current target, inflicting X Frost damage to players in a frontal cone. Additionally, players' movement speed is reduced by 75% for 10 sec.
      • Ability mage chilledtothebone.png Icy Tempest Tank Alert — The air turns to ice, drastically reducing the temperature and requiring players to remain within 10 yards of at least 2 other players or they gain Frozen Solid.
        • Ability mage chilledtothebone.png Frozen Solid — The chill causes the player to become incapacitated and inflicts X Frost damage every 1 sec for 10 sec. This effect cannot be mitigated or avoided.
      • Spell frost ring of frost.png Frigid Torrent — The caster creates waves of frozen orbs every 2 sec for 4 sec, knocking players within 4 yard away as they form. Each orb inflicts X Frost damage to any player in its path and stuns them for 6 sec.
  • Altar of Earth
    • Spell nature earthbindtotem.png Earth Dominance — Kurog inflicts X Nature damage to all players every 4 sec while attuned to the Altar of Earth. Increases the damage of Earth Dominance by 10%. This effect stacks.

    • Ability vehicle electrocharge.png Thunder Strike Important — The caster calls down thunder, inflicting X Nature damage to players within 4 yards of the impact locations. Impacts that fail to hit a player inflict Y Nature damage to all players.
    • Stormwrought Despoiler Mythic Difficulty
      • Spell lightning lightningbolt01.png Storm Smite Tank Alert — The caster unleashes thunder at its current target, inflicting X Nature damage to players in a frontal cone. Victims are electrified and inflict Y Nature damage to players within 12 yards after 5 sec.
      • Ability thunderking balllightning.png Orb Lightning — Lightning orbs form at nearby locations, inflicting X Nature damage to players within 7 yards of the impact locations and knocking them away.     • Spell shaman earthquake.png Ground Shatter — The Tectonic Crusher infuses several players with volatile earth for 5 sec. Upon expiration, infused players inflict X Nature damage to players within 10 yards.
