Grom'gar is the ancestral home of the Thunderlord orc clan located in Frostfire Ridge. According to legend, Grom'gar was built in the skeletal remains of the last colossal, which was supposedly killed by the Thunderlords many generations ago.[1]

After the Thunderlords attacked the Frostwolf clan, the Frostwolf orcs retaliated with the help of the Horde and invaded Grom'gar. The attack led to the death of the Thunderlord chieftain, Fenris.

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

"Grom" is likely the Orcish word for "colossal" (see colossal speculation). The meaning of "gar" is uncertain, but as "gar", "mar" and "ar" are all commonly seen suffixes in the names of orcish towns and settlements, they likely mean something similar to "city" or "village".
