Background

Under the rule of King Archibald Greymane, Gilneas prospered and entered into its industrial age, thriving and evolving into a formidable middle-power capable of rivaling even Kul Tiras or Stromgarde.[2]
After Archibald's death, Genn took the throne and led Gilneas much like his father had. At some point, Genn met his wife, Mia, at the Royal Aderic Banquet,[2] and theirs was not an arranged marriage.[3] They had two children: Liam, his son and heir, and Tess, who would have died in infancy if not for the intervention of the Royal Chemist, Krennan Aranas.[4] Genn was gruff with his children, and rarely told them he loved them.[5]
During the battle for Gilneas City, when Sylvanas Windrunner aimed a poisoned arrow at Genn, Prince Liam jumped in front of the bowshot to save his father. As Sylvanas fled the scene, Liam died in the arms of his father, with the knowledge that the city had been freed from Forsaken control. In the final moments of the evacuation, Prince Liam was laid to rest in a coffin in front of the patriarch's tomb in Aderic's Repose. During the ceremony, King Greymane and the Crowley family paid their final respects and made a promise to him to liberate Gilneas one day.[6]
Following the invasion of Gilneas, the Greymane family settled in Stormwind City. However, Queen Mia made sure to spend half her time in Darnassus to support her people settled at the Howling Oak, and was a frequent visitor to their encampment.[7]
When Tess wished to become a worgen, so she could better know the plight of her people to better rule them when she becomes queen, Mia redirected her to Vassandra Stormclaw in Duskwood. After her daughter left, Mia reassured Genn and explained that Tess was searching for answers to questions she never thought she would ask since the death of Liam. When her husband asked what would happen if things went wrong, she replied that they would have another one of those pleasant family conversations.[8]
Over a decade after their exile, King Genn declared that the time had come to reclaim their kingdom and gave command of the operation to Tess.[9] Following the Reclamation of Gilneas and its capital, Genn reaffirmed his faith in Tess and abdicated as the ruling king of Gilneas, declaring that his daughter would henceforth reign as the new queen of Gilneas, ready to lead their people towards a better future.[10]
