Focus
- For target focusing, see Focus target. For the Pet Battle ability, see [Focus]. For the item, see [Focus].
Focus is the primary resource for hunters and their pets. Focus is similar to a rogue's energy resource: It has a default max of 100 regardless of the hunter's level, it regenerates over time, and its passive regeneration rate is not affected by being in combat. Unlike energy, it regenerates rather slowly, but each hunter specialization also has at least one focus-generating ability with low or no cooldown.
By default, focus passively regenerates at a rate of 5 per second.

Original
During the early stages of the original World of Warcraft's development, hunters used Focus and it only regenerated when standing still.[citation needed] However, this distinguishing feature was dropped before launch: Hunters were switch to mana, leaving focus limited to hunter pets. Focus later returned as the resource of the class with Cataclysm, wherein it regenerates similarly to energy and is affected by various focus-generating and -boosting abilities.
Patch changes
- Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Hunters now use focus instead of mana.
