Background

World of Warcraft

Devlin Agamand in World of Warcraft.

Devlin was the younger of two sons in the Agamand family. Unlike his older brother Thurman, who was tall and gentle, Devlin was weak and sharp-tongued.[1][2] According to Thurman, Devlin's motives were always difficult to understand. Since he was a child, he was a mystery to the rest of his family.[3] He spent his childhood in the family's manor in Brill.[4]

When the Scourge first entered Tirisfal Glades, Devlin warned his family that they would be doomed if they tried to face the Scourge. It's unclear if he was pleading with them to leave or if he was gloating. When the Scourge attacked the Agamand Mills, Devlin despaired and sought an escape by making a pact with the Scourge. It's unknown what reward he was promised for betraying his family, but Thurman believed that it was laced with lies. Devlin murdered two of the Agamands' watchmen and led a small group of Scourge through the breach to where the rest of the men slept. The undead killed a third of the defenders before being taken down, leaving the Agamands with too few men to defend their borders against the continuous Scourge assault.[3]

When the Agamand Mills eventually fell to the plague of undeath, Devlin was among the first to succumb.[1][2] He became a skeletal mage, whose mad chattering could be heard near the road leading into the Mills. Coleman Farthing asked adventurers to bring him Devlin's bones as part of his efforts to get revenge on the Agamands.[1]

Cataclysm

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

During the Cataclysm, Coleman again asked adventurers to bring him the remains of Devlin and the other Agamands.[5] Coleman destroyed the other remains, but told the adventurers to bring Devlin's to Magistrate Sevren in Brill, since Devlin had existed as a slave of the Scourge for longer than most and could possess useful knowledge.[2] Shadow Priestess Malia and an adventurer brought the remains to Devlin's childhood home, summoned his spirit, and tried to break the dormant Lich King's Domination of him. Devlin's spirit was initially confused, but then remembered that he was dead and declared that his soul belonged to the Scourge, at which point he turned into a Shadow of Agamand and attacked, forcing the adventurer to destroy him. Upon being informed of this, Sevren suggested that either the Scourge's hold on Devlin had still been too strong, the Forsaken's methods weren't strong enough, or Devlin had simply been too stupid to comprehend what was being asked of him.[4]

Notes

  • In H [7] A Letter Undelivered, Yvette Farthing mentions someone named "Brand". No such character exists in the game, but based on the context it seems to have been an earlier name for Devlin during development that was accidentally left in the quest text upon release.
