This article is about the zone storyline before the Cataclysm. For the live version, see Desolace storyline.

Desolace is questing zone (level range of 30-39) for both the Horde and Alliance. The main quest hub for the Alliance is located in Nijel's Point, whereas the Horde players can find quests both in Ghost Walker Post and Shadowprey Village. There are many neutral quests located in the zone as well, from greedy goblin business to centaur clan rivalry.

Alliance storyline

Corporal Melkins sends the adventurer to collect 15 centaur ears from any clan in the region. According to him: "each has its own leader and agenda, but all the clans have one thing in common: cruelty".

Reclaimer's Inc

Roetten Stonehammer, at the Hall of Explorers in Ironforge has word that Reclaimers Inc. work for someone, out in Desolace. He tells you to seek out Kreldig Ungor in Nijel's Point. Learning that Roetten sent you, Kreldig welcomes the adventurer and compliments his choice of employment.

This quest is also a prerequisite for  A [10-30] The Karnitol Shipwreck and A [33] Reagents for Reclaimers Inc., given by Kreldig.

Kreldig has a shopping list for Leftwitch, a gnome mage in Kharanos. First on the list are horns and claws from the hatefury satyrs.

Second and third on Leftwitch's list are aged kodo hides, and scorpashi venom.

Kreldig sends the adventurer out one more time. This time, you're to bring back yet more demon parts. And nothing neat and clean like claws and horns, either. Leftwitch wants brains, wings, and blood.

Having done everything else to collect items for Leftwitch's order, Kreldig asks the adventurer to take the package back to Roetten Stonehammer in Ironforge.

The Karnitol Shipwreck

One of Kreldig's tasks is to recover a chest for a Stormwind mage named Karnitol. Apparently, his ship was attacked by sea giants, and his belongings were lost.

After finding the empty chest at Ethel Rethor's coast, the adventurer returns to Kreldig for further instructions.

Kreldig suspects that Karnitol's satchel's might be in the ocean with a naga tribe, and he sends the adventurer to look for it there.

Vahlarriel's Search

Vahlarriel is a night elf who is investigating the disappearrence of two missing nobles of a Darnassian merchant family: Tyranis and Dalinda from House Malem.

In his first quest, Vahlarriel asks the adventurer to investigate the whereabouts of Tyranis and Dalinda's wagon, that was last seen near the road to Stonetalon Mountains

After finding the destroyed wagon without any corpses, the adventurer returns to Vahlarriel to report his findings. Vahlarriel's suspects that the Burning Blade might have captured both to Thunder Axe Fortress.

Vahlarriel informs the adventurer that it is more important to find Dalinda, leaving hints of some suspicion on Tyranis intentions in coming to Desolace.

Venturing into Thunder Axe Fortress the adventurer finds Dalinda alive, and she informs about the Burning Blade's plans to sacrife her for their demon masters. She them asks the adventurer to find her brother, who, according to her, had recently begun craving for arcane knowledge. The adventurer finds Tyranis in a corrupted state, alligned with other Burning Blade members, and kills him. In the end of the quest, the adventurer hands Tyranis' necklace to his sister and explains about his corruption.

Finally, the adventurer escorts Dalinda out of Thunder Axe Fortress, and them returns to Vahlarriel to conclude his mission.

Other quests

This quest is part of a chain that starts in Stormwind's Cathedral with Brother Crowley. Crowley sends the adventurer to meet Brother Anton, a member of the Scarlet Crusade situated in Nijel's Point to investigate the undead presence in the Valley of Bones. After killing some skeletons for Anton, the adventurer receives a recommendation letter and is sent to Southshore to continue his efforts against the undead.

Apparently, this is the main demon guiding the Burning Blade's activity in the area.

Maurin requests a scalp from a specific type of satyr in Desolace: the hatefury shadowstalker. He explains that it will work as a reagent to find Lord Azrethoc.

Afterwards, Maurin requests the next reagent: a  [Oracle Crystal] from the local Desolace naga. At the end of the quest, Maurin is able to summon a vision of a Burning Blade warlock (Jugkar Grim'rod) and his master: Lord Azrethoc.

Maurin instructs the adventurer to talk to Takata Steelblade, an orc blademaster in Ghost Walker Post, in order to prepare for the confrontation against the demon.
