Background

(Taken from official page: Arakkoa)

There is evidence of the arakkoa existing for many years before known life in Draenor, the proof being ancient, long forgotten relics left behind by the Apexis long ago. Brann Bronzebeard connects them to Anzu.

Most non-arakkoa only know the stories of a hero named Terokk, told by exiles to the adventurers who travel from the world of Azeroth. Terokk is said to have built the city of Skettis with his own claws, and ruled as one of its most powerful kings for centuries before he disappeared without a trace, leaving behind his relics: his spear, his mask and his writings. During his reign, members of the lowest caste of the arakkoa people were sacrificed by his talonpriests to the dark powers they worshipped. Even today, his minions work in his name to commit evils throughout Terokkar Forest. At Veil Shienor and Veil Reskk, the Eyes of Skettis allow Terokk to spy on those areas. At Veil Skith, the arakkoa use the Darkstone of Terokk as an altar of worship. At Veil Rhaze, Terokk raises the spirits of the dead arakkoa killed in the Auchindoun explosion. At Veil Lithic, his minions corrupt the avians into his service. At Veil Shalas, the closest colony to Skettis, the arakkoa sages conduct wars against the Light. When Terokk disappeared, the talonpriests began actively seeking to return him to their world.

The arakkoa continued a nomadic existence on Draenor for thousands of years, though they suffered terribly during the Horde's first wars across Draenor. The resulting grudge against the orc race encouraged an arakkoa, Grizzik, to serve as a tracker and guide for Danath Trollbane's forces during the Alliance's expedition to Draenor. This arakkoa, seemingly alone, led Trollbane's soldiers to Auchindoun, and aided in the battle.

Recently, however, some have broken away from Skettis - some to free themselves from Terokk's evil, and others deluded by power. The Skettis Exiles, taken in by the naaru A'dal, reside in the Lower City of Shattrath, where they battle against Terokk's forces. The Sethekk are also breakaways from Skettis, but for a different reason. When Auchindoun exploded, an arakkoa named Ikiss believed that this was the second coming of the mysterious master of the arakkoa, and with a group of followers set out for Auchindoun - where they set up in what became known as the Sethekk Halls. Ikiss believes himself Terokk reborn, and believes he and his followers are the true followers of their master and true leaders of the arakkoa.

But deep inside Skettis, the arakkoa continue their battles against all who oppose them. The Sha'tari Skyguard, a group of Sha'tari flyers, have a base at Blackwind Landing, just outside of the Blackwind Valley where Skettis is located. On an island in the middle of Blackwind Lake, Terokk awaits the proper alignment of the stars to herald his return...

Appearance

The arakkoa are an ancient race of bird-like humanoids native to Outland. They have brightly feathered bodies in a veritable rainbow of colors, hooked beaks, clawed hands, taloned feet, and an erectile crest of feathers on their heads. They wear ragged cloaks about their bodies. The female are more slender and less hunched and lack a crest of feathers on their heads. The females usually adorn their heads with jewels or brightly coloured stones.

Reasons for Racial Traits

Although Arakkoa prefer to avoid using their beaks in combat, when in danger and near defeat they will resort to pecking at their enemies, usually in the head to crack the skull. They have strong muscles in their heads and knecks and can break bone with their strike.

"The Arakkoa are smart creatures...smart as any gnome you ever met." -Gremni Longbeard. Although Arakkoa often live in basic huts and villages, leading most to believe they lead a primitive life, they are highly intelligent and hold a great mastery over the arcane.

Arakkoa are covered in feathers and have a naturally avian shape, allowing them to run around with less wind resistance and move faster.

Although they are incapable of flight due to their size, Arakkoa have wings which when extended can help to descend from heights slower than normal, allowing them to land with less or no injury.

Arakkoa breed a special species of owl called "Kaliri" which possess valuable feathers and can be used to serve as fighters to help the Arakkoa in combat and guard their villages.

Classes

Arakkoa characters may play as Druids, Hunters, Mages, Priests, Rogues, Shamans, Warriors and Monks.

Starting Quests (Lvl 1-20)

Map of Terokkar Forest as it currently appears in-game

Arakkoa start in the Lower City of Shattrath City in a phased version of Terokkar Forest in Outland. They start in the Arakkoa section of the Lower City which is being lead by Kirrik the Awakened, the Arakkoa that lead a group from Skettis in the belief that their leaders were corrupt. Once creating an Arakkoa, the player will recieve several quests to travel to different parts of Shattrath, collect certain items, fight bandits and generally complete menial tasks. The player will then be told to meet with the leader of the Skettis Exiles, Kirrik the Awakened, who will then send them to meet with A'dal. A'dal will send the player to fight evil Arakkoa hiding in Shattrath. Afterwards, when the player returns to A'dal, infernals begin to rain from the sky and a quest is given to defeat some infernals and travel to the Cenarion Thicket.

Now at the Cenarion Thicket, the player discovers it is under attack from Imps and other minor demons. The player gets quests to fight off the demons, recover Cenarion artifacts, destroy some corruptive crystals and defeat the Demons' leader. Then travelling North to Terokkar Logging Camp at the request of the Cenarion Expedition, the player defeats Venture Co. loggers, shredders and others, exploding a large super-shredder. After returning to the Thicket the player travels south to fight Lost Ones misplaced from Tuurem and after defeating a group of them and recovering some unusual crystaline dust the player is sent to Tuurem to the East.

In Tuurem which has been reclaimed by the Draenei, you are sent to meet with an Elderly Draenei in a cave to the North, the Draenei tells the Arakkoa a story and reveals that the crystaline dust is from an Ata'mal crystal. Returning to Tuurem with the information the player is then sent to Stonebreaker Hold and fight the Horde to free a Broken one who has knowledge of the Ata'mal crystal. Sent to recover the key for the Broken's cage, they slay a commander of Stonebreaker Hold and free the Broken one. Now with the aid of the Broken one they fight a group of Lost Ones to recover a special jewel that will lead you to the location of the primary Ata'mal fragment. The Broken one then steals the jewel and teleports away and the player must return to Tuurem where the Elderly Draenei is now present. After speaking with him they are sent to Firewing Point where the Broken one teleported to give the jewel to the Firewing Blood elves there.

Defeating the Firewing Blood Elves and the Broken one the jewel is recovered and you are sent to Bonechewer Ruins where the jewel indicates the Ata'mal fragment is located. It is dicovered that the Lost Ones now inhabiting Bonechewer Ruins are in league with a group of evil Arakkoa. As the Lost Ones and Arakkoa, lead by Feathermancer Rekak, discuss the movement of the crystal the forces of the Burning Legion led by an Eredar show up and start attacking the Lost Ones and Arakkoa, who then teleports out with the Crystal. The player must fight against the forces of the legion with the help of the elderly Draenei who shows up at the ruins. The Eredar threatens them into giving up the jewel in return for their lives and he teleports away. The Draenei then reveals that the Crystal is " [Leafshadow]," the green Ata'mal fragment and sends the player to Allerian Stronghold.

Once there the player is sent to fight invading wildlife of Terokkar and is then sent into the Bone Wastes to fight demon forces and find a Burning legion encampment where the leader holds a message from the Eredar including his location at Bleeding Hollow Ruins. The player returns to Allerian Stronghold and is sent to destroy a Burning Legion army stationed in the Bone Wastes by attacking from a Gryphon. After returning, the player is then sent to fly over the Bone Wastes in the Gryphon to meet with a caravan at the Eastern border of the wastes. Located at the caravan is Rilak the Redeemed, apprentice of Kirrik the Awakened. From him and other NPCs the player must infiltrate Bleeding Hollow Ruins, kill several ogre warlocks, demons and eventually the Eredar who possessed the jewel. The elderly Draenei arrives at the caravan and informs the player that the Eredar was unable to use the jewel to locate the crystal because it wouldn't work for the corrupt. Now back in the possession of the locating jewel, the Draenei uses it to locate the crystal in Skettis.

The Draenei summons a portal and then teleports himself away to inform Kirrik and Tuurem of the location of the Crystal and to prepare for an assault on Skettis. The player may step through the portal to arrive in Skettis where Arakkoa and Draenei forces are assembled to attack the city. The player may speak with the Draenei to begin the assault. In each of the sections of the city -Veil Ala'rak, Veil Harr'ik, Lower Veil Shil'ak, and Upper Veil Shil'ak- they will encounter a boss they must take down, each one based on a different enemy residing in the city -Arakkoa, Lost Ones, Burning Legion and Kaliri. Finally the forces assemble to surround the isle of Terokk's Rest. In the centre of several "Feathermancers" lead by Feathermancer Rekak is the Ata'mal Crystal Leafshadow. Rekak announces that "Terokk's arrival is nigh and the stars shall finally allign, Terokk's powers will be fully restored! With the magics of the crystal, we command the stars themselves!" A beam of light is sent out from Leafshadow, realligning the stars into the right shape to allow for Terokk's return, "The prophecy states that Terokk's return shall be heralded by the defeat of his greatest enemies, his ancient enemies have already been slain prematurely, so that leaves you, Kirrik!" Rekak sends a lightning bolt at Kirrik slaying him and Terokk begins to materialise in the middle of the the isle. The forces rush the isle, slaying the Rekak and the Feathermancers, the elderly Draenei breaks the crystal and Terokk yells that it is "A minor inconvenience!" He transforms into a large Kaliri and begins to fly off, yelling that "It's only a matter of time now!"

The elderly Draenei reveals himself as actually the Prophet Velen in disguise on one of his pilgrimages to Outland and, impressed by the couragousness of the Arakkoa, offers Rilak and the rest of the Skettis Exiles a place among the Alliance. Shocked by Kirrik's death and terrified by Terokk's return, Rilak accepts and Velen opens a portal to Stormwind City for the player to travel through and speak with King Varian Wrynn to join the Alliance. The player is then sent to the Exodar where the Arakkoa have their own section of the ship that has been rebuilt: Arakkoa Quarter.
