The Necropolis of Nerub is a level 93 raid dungeon containing four bosses, along with one heroic mode only boss. Together with Nidhogg's Lair and the Palace of the Spider Queen, it forms the first raid tier of the Spider Kingdom Expansion.

Background

The Necropolis of Nerub holds the royal dead of the Spider Kingdom, thousands of nerubian monarchs flawless preserved for all time. The nerubians protected the necropolis against the ravages of the Scourge above all other areas of the Spider Kingdom, ensuring that none who knew of its location betrayed that knowledge to the Scourge, either in life or in death. The necropolis remained undiscovered throughout the war with the Scourge and for decades afterwards - even the forces of the Newbreed did not seek to disturb the resting place of their ancestors.

In recent days, however, the halls of the necropolis have been defiled at last. Remnants of the undead Scourge, free from the influence of Arthas, fled into the depths of Azeroth's underworld to escape the domination of Bolvar Fordragon, the new Lich King. Banding together under the command of powerful necromancers, liches, and death knights, this burgeoning Scourge has discovered the location of the necropolis, and plots to raise the dead entombed within as a powerful new army. With thousands of elite nerubian undead under their command, this new Scourge could become as great a threat as the forces of Arthas ever were.

Dungeon Journal

The Necropolis of Nerub remained inviolate against all invaders of thousands of years, concealed even from the dread influence of the Undead Scourge. But with the rise of the Newbreed, the once scared chambers and tombs of the nerubian dead have been pillaged by the undead at last. The last of the Scourge, seeking to escape the domination of the new Lich King, has invaded the necropolis to gather a new undead army.

Death General Guillotivus

The monstrous Guillotivus was trained the be the ultimate weapon of the Lich King's ground forces - a Northrend giant trained in the ways of the Death Knight. Selected from the mightiest storm giants brought down by the Scourge, he was raised into undeath and trained in a secret location deep within the mountains of Icecrown. The Lich King fell before his training was fully completed, and the brutal giant found himself in service of remnants of the Scourge led by the Lich Lord, Funeral. He was brought to the Necropolis of Nerub to act as commander of Funeral's ground forces.

Armored in terrifying, giant-sized plate forged from saronite and wielding a colossal rune blade, Guillotivus carved a swath through the nerubians defending their ancient dead, allowing the Scourge remnants to seize the necropolis. He now stands at the antechamber, defending his master against all comers.

Under Prince Anub'Kahar

One of the ancient kings of Azjol-Nerub. Anub'Kahar was granted the title of Under Prince by the nerubian queen of his era, Jiak'Nazeer. At his queen's command, he led the forces of the nerubians ancient empire against the tol'vir and the earthen protecting the titan complex of Ulduar. His forces captured many of the titan constructs and returning them to Azjol-Nerub as slaves and experimental subjects in cruel nerubian ritauls. In recognition of his service, he was entombed within the Necropolis of Nerub after his death.

The mad necromancer, Necrolord Negesh, has raised the Under Prince into the service of the remaining Scourge in Northrend. Anub'Kahar knows only hatred now for the living, and will feast on the flesh of any who cross his path.

Negesh the Soul Herder

The mightiest of the necromancers that has flocked to the banner of the Scourge remnants invading the Necropolis of Nerub. Driven into a deranged frenzy by the overwhelming energies of death that permeate the ancient tomb, Negesh has begun raising every single corpse he has managed to exhume into undeath. Far too many nerubians have risen for Negesh to fully control, and they have turned upon and slaughtered all of his living servants - much to his delight, as it has given him even more corpses to resurrect.

Scourge Lord Funeral

When the Lich King's crown passed from Arthas Menethil to Bolvar Fordragon, the many liches under his mental dominion were, for the briefest moment, restored to creatures of free will. While some fell under the sway of the newly crowned Lich King, many resisted his psychic commands and fled from Icecrown to pursue their own designs. The lich called Funeral, the Scourge Lord, is one of these mighty undead sorcerers. Too powerful and strong-willed to be brought to heel, Funeral seeks to overthrow Bolvar and seize command of the undead for himself. His plan is simple - secure the great Necropolis of Nerub, and transform every single entombed king, queen, warrior, spell-caster, burial attendant and sacrificial victim sealed within as a vast new army.

The might of Azjol-Nerub's history lies at his disposal. With a legacy stretching back 16,000 years, the power of the Spider Kingdom's honored dead will make the lich a force to be reckoned with. Funeral has already breached the lowest and most exalted chambers of the necropolis, where the mighty nerubian queens are laid to rest. Within this most sacred of nerubian crypts, he has found not only the mightiest beings who have ever ruled the Spider Kingdom, but a fragment of the legendary Eye of Nerub.

Relic Queen Nezar'Azret

Heroic Mode Only

The nerubian queen Nezar'Azret ruled the Spider Kingdom for centuries before the arrival of Ner'zhul, the Lich King. Within a few short years, the undead king had toppled her power base and laid waste to her empire. The queen was forced to abandon the Inner Kingdom and retreat into the deepest outer reaches of her home, lying in wait and building up her forces in the hope that she could someday strike back against her hated foe.

It was in her hiding that Arthas, then death knight of the Scourge, happened across her on his quest to return to Icecrown Citadel. The burgeoning power of the Lich King's chosen champion was too great for the nerubian queen to overcome, and she was ruthlessly struck down. However, her ancient soul was too powerful and alien for the runeblade Frostmourne to devour, and it slithered free of the sword's spectral grasp, wandering as a phantasm in her former kingdom.

Nezar'Azret's body was recovered by her children, and in secret it was transported back to the Necropolis of Nerub and entombed there. Her restless spirit, bound to her corpse, has languished there all this time. When the forces of the Scourge brought their necromantic energies into the necropolis to raise the many dead there as a new army, the body of Nezar'Azret became the focus of their greatest efforts.

The fallen queen has risen. The ruler of the previous generation of the nerubians has been reborn into undeath. Nezar'Azret hungers for the living.
