The previous queen of Azjol-Nerub, slain by Arthas Menethil and her own husband, Anub'arak.

Dungeon Journal

The nerubian queen Nezar'Azret ruled the Spider Kingdom for centuries before the arrival of Ner'zhul, the Lich King. Within a few short years, the undead king had toppled her power base and laid waste to her empire. The queen was forced to abandon the Inner Kingdom and retreat into the deepest outer reaches of her home, lying in wait and building up her forces in the hope that she could someday strike back against her hated foe.

It was in her hiding that Arthas, then death knight of the Scourge, happened across her on his quest to return to Icecrown Citadel. The burgeoning power of the Lich King's chosen champion was too great for the nerubian queen to overcome, and she was ruthlessly struck down. However, her ancient soul was too powerful and alien for the runeblade Frostmourne to devour, and it slithered free of the sword's spectral grasp, wandering as a phantasm in her former kingdom.

Nezar'Azret's body was recovered by her children, and in secret it was transported back to the Necropolis of Nerub and entombed there. Her restless spirit, bound to her corpse, has languished there all this time. When the forces of the Scourge brought their necromantic energies into the necropolis to raise the many dead there as a new army, the body of Nezar'Azret became the focus of their greatest efforts.

The fallen queen has risen. The ruler of the previous generation of the nerubians has been reborn into undeath. Nezar'Azret hungers for the living.

Abilities

Phase One - The Relic Queen

  • Sha spell fire bluehellfire.png Rotten Thrash  —  Deals rapid physical damage to the target and inflicts Touch of Rot, which reduces healing done to the target by 10%.
  • Spell holy excorcism.png Plume of Decay  —  Strikes all targets for nature damage if no one is within melee range of Nezar'Azret.
  • Spell holy retribution.png Vile Eruption  —  Causes corrosive slime to erupt from underfoot at random points in the chamber. Anyone struck by the slime takes a burst of nature damage. The eruptions leave several large clouds of Lingering Plague in the air that deal periodic nature damage. They will shrink and vanish over time.
  • Spell shadow deathanddecay.png Plague Bloom  —  Spawns a cloud of roiling disease, which will eventually burst and afflict all players with Plague Bloom, which deals periodic nature damage. It can be attacked and destroyed before it bursts to prevent this. Those that attack a Plague Bloom will be afflicted with a stacking debuff Roiling Plague, which will become Plague Bloom at 10 stacks.
  • Spell shadow impphaseshift.png Shriek of the Dark Beyond  —  Conjures a zone of dark energies. Every 6 seconds, the Shriek releases a burst of shadow damage that will strike all targets. If 2-5 players are standing in a zone, they will be the only ones that take damage and will suffer 75% less than usual. After bursting, a Shriek will spawn another Shriek at a random location that acts identically to the first except that it will not spawn any additional Shrieks. Once the original Shriek has burst three times, all Shrieks will despawn.

Phase Two - Your Will is Mine

At 60% health, Nezar'Azret summons Azret'Ahn Mindtakers (1 in 10-man mode, 2 in 25-man mode). She will shield herself as long as any Mindtakers are alive.

Nezar'Azret's Abilities

  • Spell holy retribution.png Vile Eruption  —  Nezar'Azret will cast Vile Eruption more frequently, leaving clouds of Lingering Plague in the air almost constantly.

Azret'Ahn Mindtaker

  • Spell shadow shadowworddominate.png Touch of Madness  —  Mind controls a target. They will remain mind controlled as long as the Azret'Ahn Mindtaker lives. If a Mindtaker is interrupted twice in a row, they will instantly cast Touch of Madness.
  • Spell arcane blast.png Spell Speed  —  Every time the Mindtaker casts a spell, they gain casting speed.
  • Spell fire felfirenova.png Shadow Spike  —  Deals shadow damage to multiple targets.
  • Spell shadow antishadow.png Aegis of the Spider Queen  —  Prevents Nezar'Azret from taking damage while alive.

Phase Three - Mother of the Spider Kingdom

Nezar'Azret retains all of her abilities from Phase One, as well as gaining the following.

  • Ability warlock improvedsoulleech.png Queen's Plague  —  Increases Nezar'Azret's power. She will deal greater damage with her attacks. The Lingering Plague clouds from Vile Eruption persist for 3 seconds longer before shrinking. Clouds from different Vile Eruptions inflict damage separately. Gained whenever Nezar'Azret casts Vile Eruption. Stacks to 99.

Strategy

Nezar'Azret remains stationary at one end of the chamber and will not move. If no players are in melee combat, she will cast Plume of Decay on all targets, rapidly destroying the raid. Her Vile Eruption spell will cause clouds of Lingering Plague to be left behind, dealing nature damage to anyone standing in them. These clouds shrink over time and will eventually vanish. Each cloud is distinct, so two overlapping clouds will each deal damage separately. Her Shriek of the Dark Beyond will create Shriek fields that must be stood in to keep them from dealing damage to all players. 3 fields will eventually spawn from one use of Shriek of the Dark Beyond.

In Phase Two, Azret'Ahn Mindtakers spawn that will shield Nezar'Azret from damage and attempt to cast mind contol spells on random players. The spell can be interrupted, but if it is interrupted too frequently, it will be immediately auto-cast. It is inevitable that players will eventually become mind controlled, so the Mindtakers must be slain rapidly before too many players are turned against the raid. Players will regain control if a Mindtaker is slain. When all Mindtakers are slain, Phase Three begins.

Phase Three is similar to Phase One, but Nezar'Azret's Vile Eruption spell will become more dangerous. Every time it is cast, the clouds of Lingering Plague left behind will last longer. Eventually, clouds from Vile Eruption will begin to overlap, dealing increasing amounts of nature damage that cannot be avoided. Nezar'Azret must be destroyed before too many Lingering Plague clouds overwhelm the raid.
