The Counting Society of Azeroth, or CSA, is an organization that collects information on the amount of creatures that live on Azeroth.

Background

From the time the night elves came to be there has been a group set with the task of maintaining records of the creatures that live within the lands of Azeroth. During this time they were simply known as the counters, but had no name to their group to which it didn't matter to them. Books were filled with numbers, updated consistently, and stored away until needed once more. They kept these books hidden away along with the knowledge so none may find them or ever learn of what creatures might exist that they have never seen. The purpose of maintaining the population count was unknown to those of current members, but it was speculated that it was to merely keep the immortal elves busy.

After losing their immortality most of the night elf members stopped traveling to count and remained in their homeland, leaving only a few left to continue the work. With the little amount of members left to count the creatures a decline in accuracy began to rise. Updating the books started to become more of a hassle than a mere task should be. Over time the remaining members stored the books deep within a cavern, tasked what would soon become the last members of the group to guard them, then the night elves returned to Darnassus to never leave again. The last remaining members were a small tribe of furbolgs, though not really considered part of the group they provided safe havens for the elves when they need a place to rest. If anything, they were considered guardians to the counters, but thats how the furbolgs saw it, night elves simply thought of them as servants.

Some fifty years ago a night elf ranger by the name of Coobra Farsight came upon a small encampment that has seen better days. The camp was abandoned along with a cave barely covered by half dead bushes and vines. Inside he located several destroyed books, some by fire others by age alone. Luck would have it though as a few books had survived, hidden, and preserved in a magical vault that opened as the elf came near. It's rumored that the books contained more than just population counts, but knowing what he had learned from them, Coobra, hid them in a new untold location to remain for all eternity. It was then that Coobra decided to reform the group and begin the task from the beginning to count the creatures of the world.

Coobra traveled first to Darnassus to find those willingly to join, but only found a few that saw the importance of such a thing. He assigned the few members nearby areas to begin their counts and to not return until the count is complete. After several months of no one returning he went out to search for his people. While in his search, he and his faithful nightsaber (Spot) came upon what seemed to three dead bodies lying in the middle of the road. Spot, sensing life in one, walked up and starting nudging the young girl. She was hurt badly and barely had a pulse, Coobra quickly took her to Darnassus so that she might live on. The members of the reformed group were never found, and what became of them would never be known, it was from then on that Coobra would train his members in the art of stealth and deception. The young girl, after several weeks of unconsciousness, arose with no memory of what had happened or where she came from only that her name was Alice.

Several years past, when the first non-elf member joined the group of counters, Alice. She had learned many things from Coobra Farsight, so much so, that he couldn't decline her from joining any longer. It was on that day he decided that anyone (with proper training) may join the counters in their quest to count the population of the world, but only if they were invited to join from another member.

The group was only recently named The Counting Society of Azeroth, by a small group of humans that had joined and although Coobra didn't care to be labeled, a vote was done and the name stuck on.

Current Activities

They were recently tasked by Coobra to make a priority count on the humanoids in the lands. Alice Goround, who at the time was counting sheep was re-tasked for the priority, with Billy Blue replacing her.

Members

The society is composed of individuals willingly to spend their lives counting those that they do not interact with.

Most of the members are those skilled in [Stealth] or deception. Those that are not remain at headquarters organizing the books, or some other task that meets their abilities.

Membership

Members are always looking for possible recruits, and only those asked to join would have a chance to join. However, those that seek to join may never join.
