Mouseover popup?

Is there currently a way to cause the abilitytip to appear when hovering over a link, similar to how the Loot template works? Example: [Piccolo of the Flaming Fire] Markkawika (talk) 20:13, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

What template would you use to link to it? --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:19, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I'd go with {{ability}}, tbqh. --k_d3 20:20, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
The link requires a class so the JS would know it's linking to an ability (such as class="itemlink" in {{loot}}), which implies a template. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:23, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Which has just been added. class="abilitylink". --k_d3 20:26, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

However, {{infobox ability}} pulls the information from {{abilitytip}}, so there's no easy way to do it... as far as I can go. g0urra[T҂C] 22:29, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Cooldown

Shouldn't "cooldown" really be a parameter here? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 07:32, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Yup.
Name
Cost Range
Cast time Cooldown
Everything else
--k_d3 21:50, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Are you agreeing that it should, or saying that it is? Because it doesn't seem to be a valid parameter, and doesn't show up in any of the examples. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 04:24, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
It will shortly. We're playing with {{Abilitytip/dev}} to make sure we don't break anything. --k_d3 04:57, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
And now done. |cooldown= works properly. --k_d3 05:09, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

Level

Currently level is not displayed if there is no class assigned (and I'm unclear what class2 vs class is for). Is [Mass Resurrection] the only ability with a level requirement and no class? Should the template have a case for this or is it sufficient to one-off that one? - jerodast (talk) 06:29, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

I think Mass Res might be the only ability like this. IIRC, [Have Group, Will Travel], had a character level requirement too, but that was removed. Probly not worth tinkering with the templates just for the 1 ability. --Aquamonkeyeg (talk) 07:11, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Ranks

so, on the discord we were talking about possibly listing ranks in the tooltips for abilities. currently the lack of ranks in tooltips is dealt with in various ways. the most common, as far as i've seen, are...

  • use the rank 1 tooltip and then list ranks in the article and/or use hover text in the tooltip (as on [Disengage])
  • use the final tooltip and don't mention ranks at all (as on [Enrage])

there's also the old style of using rank tables, but imo that wouldn't work as well for modern abilities. ranks nowadays tend to add new effects to their ability, rather than just increasing numbers

anyway, tldr i thought the idea was neat and made a mockup. the "main" section is the rank 1 tooltip, and the rank descriptions are the ones you see when you hover over 'em in the spellbook before you learn 'em. the code is still in-line because this is just a visual example; i would, of course, add actual parameters so editors don't have to add the line/colors/etc manually.

what do y'all think? —Eithris (talk) 22:55, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Love it! Surafbrov (talk) 00:51, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Looks good to me. There are also abilities formated like [Spirit of the Maelstrom], but mostly ones where it's a single number getting upgraded with each rank. Would this format of yours apply to such abilities too, or just ones where new functions are added? PeterWind (talk) 01:30, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
oh yeah, forgot about that one. i do like that format, so ye, this would probs just be for abilities with ranks that add new effects or make some other change that can't be shown that way (like disengage's cooldown. i've never been super happy with that one) —Eithris (talk) 03:02, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
