The Southsea Freebooters (or Southseas Freebooters and the Southsea Pirates)[2] are a group of pirates. Prior to the Cataclysm, they could be found along the coast of the Barrens and Tanaris, and have even recently appeared in the flooded Thousand Needles. Their connection with the Northsea Freebooters is unclear, but the Northsea pirates seem to have a severe dislike towards their Southsea counterparts.[3]
History
World of Warcraft
The Southsea Freebooters were based on the Merchant Coast from where they were causing problems to the goblins of Ratchet. Gazlowe, in turn, sent the adventurers of the Horde and Alliance to fight them. The Steamwheedle Cartel tasked Security Chief Bilgewhizzle with teaching the pirates in Tanaris a lesson.
The troll Tazan traded with the Southsea Freebooters.[4]
Cataclysm
Over on the goblin paradise of Kezan, these pirates have invaded adventurer's parties with the local citizens. They were also present in the Slave Pits on the Lost Isles seemingly allied with the traitor Trade Prince Gallywix.
The Southsea Freebooters have left the Northern Barrens beach and have moved to Fray Island. The Southsea Freebooters have also set up camp around the areas with no flooding in Thousand Needles.
Some time after the Cataclysm, half of Admiral Tony Two-Tusk's pirate crew was present at Fizzle and Pozzik's Speedbarge, seemingly guarding him during the annual boat race event.[5]
Tides of War
After the Fall of Theramore, Jaina Proudmoore traveled to Fray Island and killed all the Southsea Freebooters, marching through their encampments and scouring the buildings clean so that she would have no distractions of using it as a base from which she would unleash her massive tidal wave upon Orgrimmar.[6]
Timeless Isle
Some members were spotted on the newly found Timeless Isle.
Legion
A ship commanded by Captain Blindside and his crew arrived at Oceanus Cove in Azsuna.
Battle for Azeroth
They might be encountered during island expeditions.
Exploring Azeroth
Although the goblins of Tanaris drove the Freebooters back countless times, after the Fourth War the pirates dock atop the crushed home of Steamwheedle Port and continue to raid the goblins. They also still occupy Southsea Holdfast and attack the Horde in Thousand Needles.[1] By the time of the awakening of the Dragon Isles, one of their ships was still found on the coast of the Timeless Isle, baiting anyone who sees its treasure.[7]
Dragonflight
Some time after the discovery of the Dragon Isles, on a pirate ship in the Shrouded Coast of the Forbidden Reach, a book mentioned that the Southsea Freebooters are welcomed to sail under the flag of Nightsquall's crew, who aims to build the biggest pirate fleet Azeroth has ever known. The volunteers are invited to travel to the Dragon Isles and to plunder its secrets in the name of Dread Admiral Nightsquall.
The War Within
The mages at the Bronze Celebration opened a portal to throw waste out of the area, with the other end being at the pirates in Southbreak Shore.

In the RPG
The Southsea Freebooters (also known as Southsea Pirates)[8] is a small fleet of mostly goblin pirates that has no landward home — at least none that the authorities have found — but it is a common sight along the coast of the Barrens and in the free port of Ratchet. These scoundrels are just one of a number of pirates who roam the trade routes from Darkshore to Theramore in search of fortune and plunder.[9] They are led by the human buccaneer Andre Firebeard.[8]
In Tanaris, the Southsea Pirates get their water by raiding, or simply sailing further up the coast to resupply. If it were not for them, the Gadgetzan Waterworks Company could ship in supplies from Steamwheedle Port — but the pirates intercept most shipping these days, so until they are dealt with, things will stay as they are.[8] Steamwheedle Port's inhabitants spend most of their time fishing and fighting off Southsea Pirates.[10]
Volatile Rum is enjoyed by these pirates, who keep the secrets of its creation… well, secret.[11]
