Sayge is a talented gnoll mystic employed as a fortune-teller at the Darkmoon Faire. He provides free buffs during the event in the form of [Sayge's Fortunes], and is also a quest giver for several monthly tasks.
Description
Sayge is a gnoll, one of the few that are not hostile to players. Aside from being neutral, he has also learned to speak Common and Orcish fluently.
Silas Darkmoon especially values Sayge as a clairvoyant and considers him one of the best he's ever seen.[1]
A new game called Whack-a-Gnoll was introduced on Darkmoon Island and is quite popular with the other carnies, but Sayge (for obvious reasons) isn't too fond of it.
Quests
As an expert on mystical arts, especially magical writings, Sayge collects one of the [Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide] artifacts which can be found in dungeons, and provides two profession-related quests.
[1-80] An Intriguing Grimoire
(starts from
[Mysterious Grimoire] found in dungeons with the Adventurer's Guide)
[1-80] Putting Trash to Good Use
(Enchanting quest)
[1-80] Writing the Future
(Inscription quest)
All three quests can be completed each time the Faire is in town (once per month).
Services
- Main article: Sayge's Fortunes
Sayge performs fortune-telling for characters who respond to two hypothetical scenarios he presents, buffing them with one of [Sayge's Fortunes] and providing a written fortune as an item. There are 8 possible buffs, each providing a different combat bonus linked to which responses were chosen in a predictable manner. The buffs last for 2 hours, with a longer cooldown between receiving buffs.
After Sayge provides a buff, a written fortune can be requested. If it is, he provides a [Darkmoon Faire Fortune] which works similarly to a fortune cookie. Opening it creates a random specific fortune which can be read by hovering on it.
Four of his written fortunes were quest items which started the following quests:
[60] Your Fortune Awaits You... (in Eastvale)
[60] Your Fortune Awaits You... (inside the Deadmines)
[60] Your Fortune Awaits You... (inside Wailing Caverns)
[60] Your Fortune Awaits You... (outside Palemane Rock)
Quotes
- The longer you wait, the less future you have for me to foretell.
- Come speak with me, and what once was cloudy shall become crystal clear.
- Fear not! All fortunes can be discerned for those who know the way.
- Come to me and see what the future holds for you!
- Initial conversation
I have long known you'd seek me out, <name>.
Every sentient being in this world is driven by the choices they make. Choices begat further choices, and these in turn make someone who they are. This is where your fortune is drawn from - who you are, and the choices you make.
All fortunes can be discerned for those who know the way.
Are you ready to discover where your fortune lies?
I am ready to discover where my fortune lies!
- See
[Sayge's Fortunes] for the complete fortune-telling dialogue tree.
- Fortune cast
Your fortune is cast, <class>. For the next few hours, you will find your spirit in tune with your true nature. Be careful, as your fortune - and your fate - are never as clear as you might think them to be.
If you would like a small glimpse of something to ponder in your future, by all means let me know. I'd be happy to give you a written fortune, provided you have room in your inventory. It is one drawn from the insight you have shown in answering my questions.
I'd love to get one of those written fortunes you mentioned! I've got the space in my inventory for it.
Here is your fortune, <name>. May it serve you well.
- Fortune on cooldown
Alas... I am sorry to say I cannot currently give you your fortune, as you have recently received a fortune reading from me.
Return to me several hours from when you first received your fortune. The forces of Fate will have properly recalibrated themselves, and I will be able to see into your future.
In Hearthstone
Sayge appears as a legendary mage card in the 'Madness at the Darkmoon Faire expansion for Hearthstone. His flavor text reads: "There are no secrets between us... or refunds."
Trivia
Sayge is an homage to the classic Ultima series of role playing games. In Ultima IV, V, VI and IX, the game began with a meeting with The Gypsy fortune teller, and your answers to her moral dilemmas determined the stats your character would begin with.
