Raene Wolfrunner is a night elf quest giver located in Astranaar in Ashenvale. As a hunter, she has two pets: a saber cat named Korra and a wolf named Dagri, and is a member of the Sentinels and the Unseen Path. She appears to be some kind of an officer as she has Sentinels and scouts under her command.[1][2][3] Teronis was a longtime friend of Raene's,[4] and Sentinel Aluwyn is her trusted friend,[5] while Orendil Broadleaf is also friends with her.[6] The dryad Shael'dryn also recognizes her.[7]
She knows and cares deeply about the forests of Ashenvale, and she would rather face the Horde alone than watch them hack and slash their way through the trees.[5]
History
World of Warcraft
Raene Wolfrunner came from Darnassus through Auberdine and was heading to Ashenvale to help deal with the furbolg threat. She pulled Thundris Windweaver from harm's way and saved him. He then sent young Alliance adventurers to seemingly look after her.[8] Sentinel Selarin in Darkshore was subordinate to Raene and was commanded by her to find Terenthis. He was unable to assist, and instead Selarin directed the adventurers to Raene who was awaiting them, hoping to ease some of the corruption in the ancient forest as well as help citizens of Astranaar.[1]
Her friend Teronis was aiding the Sentinels in Ashenvale, working on finding a gem for Dartol's rod. Raene asked the adventurer to locate Teronis. When they did, they found him dead.[4] They recovered his journal and the missing gem and returned both items to Raene. She had her Sentinels recover his body and was determined to complete his mission.[9] To that end, she let adventurers follow Teronis' notes, now heading to Shael'dryn.[7] She ordered to eliminate Foulweald furbolgs at their camp who had been attacking travelers.[10] Lastly, she wanted to cripple the Thistlefur furbolgs, whose numbers have grown greatly over the past few months according to her scouts. As such, she ordered to kill Dal Bloodclaw.[3] She also sent Kaela Shadowspear to the Stonetalon Mountains to investigate what's happening to the land.[2]
After some time, the adventurer managed to recreate the rod and returned Raene to set the next course,[11] which was to use the rod to take the form of a furbolg and speak with Krolg and help against the taint.[12] Krolg wanted to kill Ran Bloodtooth who was the fiercest furbolg threat in Ashenvale. With Ran dead, his skull was taken to Raene, who took it and the rod and displayed it in a place of reverence.[13]
Cataclysm
After the Cataclysm, Raene continued to maintain her focus on the furbolg threat, now added with the threat of the invading Horde. When an adventurer brought her a troll charm, she could sense a corruption from it.[14] She had the adventurer request help from the worgen Hephaestus Pilgrim.[15] She also sent them to aid Sentinel Aluwyn and thwart the Horde at Zoram Strand.[5]
Legion
During the Burning Legion's third invasion, Raene joined the Unseen Path and traveled to the Trueshot Lodge in Highmountain on the Broken Isles.
Dragonflight
Years later, Raene attended the gathering at Amirdrassil when it bloomed on the Dragon Isles after Fyrakk's death, where she spoke with Goldrinn at the party. After the new night elf city Bel'ameth is established, she can be found at Arlithrien Lodge.

I know these forests as if they were a part of me... but know that there is still much to be learned from them, and much danger still hidden.

Trivia
- It is possible she was put in Ashenvale by Blizzard in order to cull the amount of Horde raids on the town which frequently kill quest NPCs and ruin player experience. The same was done with the Crossroads NPC Sergra Darkthorn.
- Raene Wolfrunner was the name of an EQ character of the person who started Norrath Studios and then Azeroth's Studio,[16] which later became Studio MMO, an online art community.[17]
