Pyromancers (or pyromages[1] and firecallers)[2] are mage and shaman spellcasters who specialize in fire-based spells. This magical domain is also known as pyromancy.

Prior to the First War, a philosophical question among the mages of the Kirin Tor in the Violet Citadel was if created fire was called into being or was summoned from some parallel existence. According to the Guardian of Tirisfal Medivh, when a mage creates fire with arcane magic, all they do is concentrate the inherent nature of the fire contained in the surrounding area into one location, in order to call it into being.[3] Although fire can be created by concentrating on the inherent nature of fire,[4][5] it can also be summoned as fire elementals.

While any worthy mage is an unparalleled expert in the use of magic and heavily dedicated to their craft, those who master the forces of fire tend to be a little more audacious than their peers. If a threat stands before them, the answer is always to neutralize it in a glorious blaze. A lifetime dedicated to the study of fiery forces only fuels their pyromania, and these mages take pride—even pleasure—in igniting their enemies in wild bursts of flame.[6] To keep enemies at bay, they can summon bursts of fire to incinerate distant targets and cause entire areas to erupt, setting groups of foes ablaze.[7]
