Malykriss: The Vile Hold.

Malykriss: The Vile Hold is an incomplete Scourge necropolis in Icecrown. As the cutting edge of Scourge construction and technology, it was being constructed entirely of saronite, the ore used to construct Icecrown Citadel and its defenses. If it had ever been completed, Malykriss would have been indestructible.[1]

Background

Wrath of the Lich King

Wrath of the Lich King This section concerns content related to Wrath of the Lich King.

According to Vereth the Cunning, this necropolis was intended as the replacement for Acherus: The Ebon Hold (now held by the renegade Knights of the Ebon Blade), and if completed, would have been hard to destroy.[2] According to Crusader Olakin Sainrith, it served as the seat of the Lich King's metalworking operations.[3] Malykriss isn't only a forge, in the quarry below as well as in other locations, the Host of Suffering trained new death knights under the leadership of Orbaz Bloodbane.

When Keritose Bloodblade found out that all the saronite was being sent here, he sent an adventurer to meet up with Vereth the Cunning in order to disable the Scourge operations.[4] Using the Eye of Dominion to take control of a Lithe Stalker,[5] in order to find out what they are up against, Vereth considered that it was unnecessary to destroy the necropolis, and that the production simply had to be halted.[2] In order to destroy the Host of Suffering before they could become real threat, the adventurer had to cause some disruptions by starting fights,[6] killing gargoyles,[7] and taking out the abominations.[8] Finally, Vereth tasked them to kill Sapph the Rider of Frost,[9] Rokir the Rider of the Unholy,[10] and Baelok the Rider of Blood.[11]

With the death knight masters dead and the production halted, the adventurer was sent to help Highlord Darion Mograine and the Ebon Blade beneath Icecrown Citadel, where they put an end to Orbaz and his organization.[12]

Following the war against the Jailer, the brothers Bronzebeard reported that with the Scourge interrupted by Bolvar Fordragon's control, and then no control at all, Malykriss is still unfinished, floating in the sky above Icecrown's foul saronite smelting works.[1]

Other Malykriss-type necropoli

Malykriss type necropolis in the Halls of Reflection.

An unnamed necropolis with a design similar to Malykriss can be seen during the Escape from Arthas encounter in the Halls of Reflection. This necropolis appears to be more complete than Malykriss.
