An imperial lynx.

The imperial lynx is a breed of large lynx native to the Arathi Empire. The Arathi domesticate them as fierce and loyal companions and mounts. The Hallowfall Expedition brought lynxes with them to Hallowfall in Khaz Algar.[1] A bonded imperial lynx is (aside from their mastery of the Sacred Flame) the ideal Arathi soldier's biggest advantage on the battlefield, and it is every soldier's duty to try and foster a bond with one of the cats.[2]

The lynxes themselves choose their riders, not the other way around.[3] Once a lynx has bonded to a person, they are friends for life. The cats are trained as well as the soldiers are.[4] The Arathi teach the cats warfare by letting them play and taking them through mock battles. They regularly brush their mounts to manage shedding and reinforce bonding; brushed lynx fur is reused as fiber.[2] In the Empire, the Army conducts military parades with soldiers riding through city streets on lynxes in ceremonial armor.[4]

Lynxes prefer to eat large prey, such as shalehorn, but also enjoy hammerfish and undercrawler hatchlings. They communicate their mood through ear and tail movements, as well as through purring.[2] Like other cats, imperial lynxes have a weakness for catnip. They sometimes need to be taken on rides to get rid of excess energy (which the Arathi call "zoomies").[5]

Petting all the named lynxes in Hallowfall is the subject of the achievement  [The Missing Lynx].
