Hogger is a gnoll found atop Hogger Hill in southwestern Elwynn Forest. He was the chieftain of the Riverpaw pack.
Hogger had a reputation as a particularly dangerous foe, primarily because he was one of the first elite mobs a human would meet. Thus, new players would sometimes underestimate him, not knowing what the elite tag indicated. In classic, this mistake was a recipe for a very quick death. While Hogger's significance in-game was originally minimal, his relative difficulty at such a low level has caused him to become one of the most well-known and popular minor characters in the game.
Biography
World of Warcraft
In the years after the Third War, the Riverpaw pack led by Hogger became an ominous threat to the kingdom of Stormwind, raiding farms and human villages throughout Elwynn Forest. They were conspiring with the Defias Brotherhood,[3][4] which was equipping them with weapons, tactical leadership, and magic.[5]
Though it was unclear what the gnolls were after, the Stormwind Marshals realized that the creatures posed an obvious threat to the realm and had to be eradicated.[5] As part of this effort, the army placed a generous bounty on Hogger asking bounty hunters and adventurers to slay the beast and bring his claw to Marshal Dughan in Goldshire as proof of his demise.[6]
Cataclysm
Following the Cataclysm in 28 ADP, Hogger was still active in Elwynn Forest and even had his own hill named after him, the Hogger Hill. After being defeated once again by heroes, he was arrested and taken to the Stockade in Stormwind City, alongside many of his pack.[7] Eventually, the imprisoned gnoll king organized an attack against the guards from within the Stockades, leading his followers to kill Warden Thelwater's men. The Alliance adventurers were ultimately dispatched to put an end to Hogger.[1]
After his death, the gnoll packs in the kingdom found themselves leaderless, becoming messy and easy for the armies of Stormwind to defeat and repel. Hogger's Trousers have been kept in the stockade by the guards as a memento that improves the morale of the troops.[2]
