Ghost Wolf is a shaman ability. It transforms the shaman into the form of a ghost wolf, increasing movement speed by 30%. It is learned at level 10, or from the Exile's Reach quest [1-10] A Shaman's Duty.
This ability's appearance can be changed to a spectral raptor with [Glyph of the Spectral Raptor] or to a spectral lupine with [Glyph of the Spectral Lupine].
Tips and tactics
- You can loot, skin, and gather herbs while in Ghost Wolf form, but using any other abilities will immediately end it.
- You can carry the flag in battlegrounds such as Warsong Gulch.
- You can do a silly dance! (
/dance
) - Ghost Wolf changes your type from Humanoid to Beast while active.
Lore
- When Thrall's soul separated from his body and entered the spirit world he transformed himself into a spirit wolf.[1]
- The Taur-ahe word for "ghost wolf" is "Lo'Gosh."[2]
- In World of Warcraft: Shaman, the shaman and leader of the Earthen Ring Muln Earthfury transformed himself into a ghost wolf to travel faster in Thunder Bluff.[3]
- In Micky Neilson's opinion, when a shaman transforms into a ghost wolf the shaman's body becomes incorporeal.[4]

Patch changes
- Hotfix (2023-05-09): Fixed an issue causing [Spirit Walk] to cancel Ghost Wolf form for Elemental Shaman.
- Patch 10.0.7 (2023-03-21):
- No longer removes the Shaman's Maelstrom bar while active.
- Shamans that are in Ghost Wolf now display the Maelstrom resource on their Personal Resource Display instead of mana if they are Elemental specialization.
- Patch 9.0.5 (2021-03-09):
- The animation for Ghost Wolf form has been slowed down slightly. Movement speed is unchanged.
- Ghost Wolf can no longer be used in conjunction with anima power effects such as [Mawrat Harness].
- Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now learned at level 10 (was 16), or from the Exile's Reach quest [1-10] A Shaman's Duty.
- Patch 8.1.5 (2019-03-12): Fixed a bug that allowed [Unleash Life] to be cast while in Ghost Wolf.
- Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): [Water Walking] can now be cast while in Ghost Wolf form.
- Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Shaman no longer lose the [Masquerade] disguise in Suramar City after using Ghost Wolf. They will instead change into a mana saber while in the city.
- Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Now prevents movement speed from being reduced below 100% while active. Mana cost reduced. Now learned at level 16 (was 15) and can be used while dead.
- Hotfix (2015-03-03): Ghost Wolf transformation should now correctly have priority over cosmetic transformation effects.
- Hotfix (2014-12-11): Ghost Wolf modified by Glyph of Ghostly Speed no longer provides a movement speed increase while indoors.
- Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Wolf model updated.
- Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Cast time removed. No longer causes the Shaman to be less hindered by effects that would reduce movement speed.
- Patch 4.0.6 (2011-02-08): Player movement speed cannot be reduced below 100% while in Ghost Wolf if the player is or has been in an indoor environment.
- Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Speed buff reduced to +30%, down from 40%. Can now be learned at level 15 (was 16). Now usable indoors.
- Patch 3.3.3 (2010-03-23): Summoning this pet no longer sometimes triggers items which are triggered by casting healing spells.
- Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Can now be learned at level 16 (was 20). While in this form, snaring effects may not bring the shaman below base normal run speed.
- Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Mana cost is now 13% base (was 100 mana).
- Patch 2.4.0 (2008-03-25): Base cast time reduced to 2 seconds, down from 3.
- Patch 2.0.3 (2007-01-09):
- The shaman talents [Elemental Mastery], [Shamanistic Rage] and the troll racial [Berserking] can no longer be used in Ghost Wolf form.
- You can now speak to NPCs in Ghost Wolf form.
- Patch 1.10.0 (2006-03-28): Shaman can now use equipped items while in Ghost Wolf form.
- Patch 1.8.0 (2005-10-10): Will now correctly have its cast time reduced by [Nature's Swiftness].
- Patch 0.12 (2004-10-11): Now only usable outdoors.
- Patch 0.9 (2004-08-17): Now considered a beast when using Ghost Wolf.
- Patch 0.7 (2004-06-15): Moved to level 20. Mana cost increased.
