— Dread Admiral Eliza[1]

Dread Admiral Eliza Goreblade[2][3] was an undead pirate and the wielder of the Dreadblades, a pair of cursed cutlasses created by the demon Talgath which corrupted her and her crew of Bloodsail Buccaneers, transforming them into the Dread Fleet: bloodthirsty undead servants of the Burning Legion. She and her followers terrorized the South Seas from the Cataclysm until the third invasion of the Burning Legion,[3] when a rogue adventurer killed her at the Temple of a Thousand Lights in Azsuna to claim the Dreadblades.[1]

Biography

Dread Admiral Eliza in World of Warcraft.

Eliza Goreblade was an admiral of the Bloodsail Buccaneers.[3] Fleet Admiral Tethys considered her "one of his best".[4] She and her crew were at sea when the Cataclysm struck, and took shelter from the rogue waves near a patch of islands[3] near Booty Bay.[2] After the unrest passed, they discovered that the waves had uncovered a cache of buried treasure from the ill-fated ship Bellwether, including the Dreadblades Fate and Fortune. Eliza claimed the latter for herself, not realizing that the blades had been created by the eredar Talgath to corrupt pirates to the Burning Legion's cause and had caused the doom of their previous owners by afflicting them with insane bloodlust, a fate that now also quickly befell Eliza and her crew.[3]

After taking up the cutlasses, Eliza received a vision of herself leading a massive pirate fleet, conquering all the seas and nations of Azeroth and destroying any who opposed her. She and her corrupted crew proceeded to massacre a rival pirate hideout. Talgath encouraged them to attack only isolated ships and not leave witnesses so as not to attract attention. For several years, Eliza's crew became an unseen menace killing and pillaging ships on the South Seas; none were able to best Eliza in combat.[3][2] The other Bloodsails eventually realized the depths of Eliza's insanity and tried to intervene, but she fought off their attack and took control of their flagship, the Crimson Veil.[3] The Bloodsails later took back the Crimson Veil, but Eliza in turn stole another of their best ships, the Horizon's Edge.[5] The Dreadblades' magic withered away the flesh of Eliza and her crew, turning them into undead skeletons[3] that became known as the Dread Fleet.[1]

Shortly before the Burning Legion's third invasion of Azeroth, Talgath revealed himself to Eliza and offered her greater power and immortality in exchange for aiding the demons in the coming war. Eliza relished the possibility of bringing ruin to the whole world and immediately agreed to a pact, giving the souls of all her crew to Talgath. When the Legion invaded, the Dread Fleet destroyed several convoys of Alliance and Horde reinforcements before they could reach the Broken Isles.[3]

Shortly after the Battle for Broken Shore, the Dread Fleet anchored the Horizon's Edge at the Temple of a Thousand Lights in Azsuna. Fleet Admiral Tethys and the Bloodsail Buccaneers enlisted the aid of a rogue adventurer to reclaim their stolen ship and take the Dreadblades from Eliza.[5] The rogue commandeered the Horizon's Edge, then pursued Eliza into the temple, fighting past her unleashed sea giant Lord Brinebeard and her crewmembers' magic. They confronted her at the bottom of the temple, where she was communing with Talgath, and killed her, claiming the Dreadblades off her corpse.[1]

Hearthstone This section contains information exclusive to Hearthstone and is considered non-canon.

Eliza appears in the Battlegrounds mode as a tier 6 Pirate minion. She was originally depicted in her undead form as Dread Admiral Eliza. Following the addition of the Undead minion type to the mode, she was changed to Admiral Eliza Goreblade, which depicts her as she appeared while a living human, so that she would not be considered an Undead for balance reasons.

Eliza reappears in Traditional Hearthstone's Perils of Paradise expansion as a legendary death knight minion. She is depicted as part of a trio of undead pirate sisters, the other two being Peggy Brittlebone and the Frostbitten Freebooter, both of which are exclusive to Hearthstone. Eliza's flavor text reads: Dead men tell no tales, but Undead Pirates are yappers.
