Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood is a two-handed sword that drops from Nefarian in Blackwing Lair. It's rumored to have belonged to Sir Anduin Lothar.[1]
In Blackwing Descent, Nefarian drops a similar sword, Reclaimed Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood. And in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible, Echo of Neltharion wields and drops [Ashkandur, Fall of the Brotherhood] with an appearance similar to Ashkandi.
In the RPG
This massive two-handed sword has a hilt resembling the intertwined necks and heads of two red dragons. The weapon's wicked, impossibly sharp blade only hints at the massive power contained within. It is made of thorium and weighs 15 pounds.[2]
Trivia
- The weapon is wielded by Captain Iskandar and the Horde version of Argent Knight.
- In Heroes of the Storm, Sonya uses Ashkhandi, [Quel'Serrar], and the Battlegear of Wrath as part of her "Wrath" skin.

Anduin Lothar's sword?
- The initials on its hilt (A.L.) and the title "Greatsword of the Brotherhood" (possibly referring to the Brotherhood of the Horse, the name of the kingdom of Stormwind's knights before the First War[3]) suggest Ashkandi may have belonged to Anduin Lothar. Lothar was the Regent Lord of Stormwind and Champion of King Llane, but was killed by Orgrim Doomhammer during the Siege of Blackrock Spire in the Second War.
- Ashkandi's appearance bears similarities to the Great Royal Sword of Stormwind, which Lothar used to fight (and was broken by) Orgrim Doomhammer. Turalyon took possession of the broken Great Royal Sword after Lothar's death and is depicted with it on Draenor in World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 2.
- Since World of Warcraft: Legion, Turalyon has wielded a sword that bears similarities to the Great Royal Sword - including the fact that it was clearly broken. However, A Thousand Years of War states that Turalyon forged a new sword, suggesting that the one he wields may not be the actual Great Royal Sword. Or Turalyon may simply own two swords. Unlike Turalyon's sword, Ashkandi has no indication that it was ever broken.
- It remains unclear whether Ashkandi or Turalyon's current sword are the real Great Royal Sword. It is possible they could be three separate but similar-looking swords. If Ashkandi is the real Great Royal Sword, it is unclear how it traveled from Turalyon's possession on Draenor to Nefarian in Blackrock Mountain.
- Ashkandi could have been forged by Nefarian as an intentional mockery of the Great Royal Sword, or modified or corrupted by Nefarian or one of his underlings due to its blackened appearance.
- In Hearthstone: The League of Explorers (non-canon), players face the Steel Sentinel, which is actually Lothar's animated armor. One of the rewards for defeating it is the Cursed Blade card, the art of which resembles Ashkandi. The art was originally used for the Crimson Guard TCG card.
