Replacement reins (Brewfest)

"Replacement reins do not summon a ram, however, they are useful to prep for the non-quest mechanic ..." How so? What sort of prep are you doing? Madkaugh (talk) 17:34, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Hopefully I made that statement clear enough. I talk to the <Ram Racing Apprentice>, and he gives me the reins. Then I put them on my bar so they're ready to go. I get in max range of the <Ram Racing Master>, talk to him, and accept the mechanic. It doesn't bug out or anything - I can just use the reins I already have to start running. If you didn't do this, it seems possible there could be a small degree of latency (maybe 0.5 second) for the quest item to appear in your inventory. This way you start clicking right away!
"Hopefully I made that statement clear enough." - Your hope is in vain, obviously, since the question was asked.
"I talk to the <Ram Racing Apprentice>, and he gives me the reins." - Yes, that was already in the article, the comment you changed was about the alleged usefulness or lack thereof of those reins.
"Then I put them on my bar so they're ready to go." - OK, that was what I was asking about, the scope of the benefit of the inert reins. I agree, BTW, they are a bit useful for that. Madkaugh (talk) 01:21, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Per your request for feedback;
I like the look of the page, and your information is thorough. Good job.
The sub-achievements should be fleshed out, which will be very redundant. I suspect the best approach would be transcluded sub-articles. Haven't messed with those myself. Madkaugh (talk) 20:10, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, they're seperate achievements, but I think it'd be best if we just outlined the differences as I have in the brewfest article. I think it'd be eaiser for the readers that way. Mckaysalisbury (talk) 17:40, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

When editing pages, pay heed to that page. Specifically, section headers should be in sentence case and not completely in capitals. Thanks. --Sky (t · c · w) 00:29, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I realized I didn't quite phrase it correctly. You've been making pages that say "See Also" and "External Links", when they should be "See also" and "External links". Other section headers should follow the same rules, unless the word is a proper noun, such as a header titled "Beginning of Thrall's existence". --Sky (t · c · w) 15:46, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
No, title case or some other form of it was probably what I was looking for. :P --Sky (t · c · w) 15:57, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Achievement cases

I think you misunderstood me in that only the Feats of Strength achievement category should be cased like that, and not the PvP or world event categories. Personally I'd keep it like "Category:Player vs. player achievements" and "Category:World event achievements". g0urra[T҂C] 03:07, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Template:Rare et al.

You remade them based on the idea that they should have separate ones a la the reputation ones, and then got told to use quality. Something I've been looking to do (other then the fact I have no time these days) is to consolidate the reputation ones into a Template:Rep or Template:Reputation (probably the former). What say you? --Sky (t · c · w) 16:32, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Heh, it's basically a copy paste of quality so far as I'm concerned, without the need for bolding the text. Feel free to do so. --Sky (t · c · w) 17:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

3.0.8 Wintergrasp trinkets

Wowhead's version is outdated. There's no point in giving the trinkets the stats they have now, since it will soon be fixed. g0urra[T҂C] 16:53, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

The trinkets as they are now are not even attainable, so there is no noticeable difference either way we update it or not. However, as the items aren't even on the live servers right now, there's no point in keeping the old stats.
The updates on existing items should be applies one or two days before the patch, so that it doesn't make that much of a difference once people look up the information. g0urra[T҂C] 20:48, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

You added a tag that the Trophy Fish article has out of date information, but your Edit Summary had no rationale. What did you see that is out of date? Madkaugh (talk) 02:39, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

"Reason: Baby coralshell turtle and the trophy swordfish were in the beta but were not released to live. There might be other discrepancies." - Those two were indicated by the achievement, but no one had seen them. I'll comment them out, and check the achievement. If the achievement still mentions them, I'll make a note that they are not currently in the game; if they've been dropped from the achievement, I'll delete them. Category:Faction_achievements_that_might_need_renamed

Hi. I saw you created the above mentioned category, but shouldn't the faction be capitalized in the Achievements since "Alliance" and "Horde" are proper nouns? --Wige (Talk - Contribs) 16:49, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

I know what you mean about the frustration. When I started creating pages for quests, I found that if I copied the boilerplate someone would edit the article to match other quests in the zone. If I copied the template of other quests in the zone, someone else would edit it to match the boilerplate. As far as this issue though, I have not seen anywhere else where "Horde" and "Alliance" are not capitalized, so I marked the category for deletion. Hope you don't mind, at least it gets it off the todo list, and maybe will prevent confusion if a new editor sees it and starts renaming everything. --Wige (Talk - Contribs) 19:26, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
There are categories for Horde-only and Alliance-only achievements, which the page is put into automatically when the tooltip is created. On those pages, all of the parenthesis have the faction capitalized. To me, this was just another indication that the change wasn't warranted. See http://www.wowwiki.com/Category:Alliance-only_achievements. There are less than might be expected, because a lot of them are similar enough to share a page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wige (talk · contr).

It isn't a namespace... which is why it needs removing. And it splits information, just as you did. :P Unless they would make the page excessively heavy, all the technical info should be on the same page as the general information. I figured since you made the page, you would be best to merge it because you know a bit more than me. --Sky (t · c · w) 23:09, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. They should have never announced the level minimum, if they knew they were going to change it. Relocation of the {{Stub/PTR|<3.1.0>}} template on the Dungeons & Raids achievement pages

I am curious as to why you moved the template from the seperate table within the pages to the main page? I only did it the way I did it was because the whole section was not a ptr change ( just what i put in the new table ) - and since they are on Ptr they are subject to change (for instance in this new build 9722 in the Secrets of Ulduar Raid and Secrets of Heroic Ulduar Raid ( they are removing 10 of the achievements ((5 normal and 5 heroics)) which were just added in 9704) -- but are adding 10 new ones in their place ((5 normal and 5 heroics)) - and they are changeing the name of 2 of then ((1 normal and 1 heroic)) - so I was keeping them seperate for that reason too -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 05:18, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I have not made those new achievement changes - we had some storms come thru texas and lost DSL untill just a few minutes ago - so I just logged in to see changes - will do my changes tomorrow - if weather does not interfere again - (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 05:20, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

changes to Dungeons & Raids achievement

Umm the name of the groups are called Secrets of Ulduarr Raid and Secrets of Ulduar Heroic Raid on the PTR server - that is where I got the names for those groups from - so I would like to keep them that way since that is [Blizzard]'s name for them -- as to the achievement  Moma said Knock You Out I left the original in the upper table - because that is what the text says it is ( right now on the Live servers ) but in Path 3.1.0 the text will change to the way I had it in the lower table that had the {{Stub/PTR|<3.1.0>}} tag on it -- it will change in 3.1.0 so I left the same number so that we could easily copy / paste the information over the OLD information with ease -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 21:57, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I had it duplicated because there technialy is 2 versions of that achievement  Momma Said Knock You Out ( The Live Version ) and the (PTR version) that is changing some of the TEXT - That is why why I had them the same number ( so coudl copy the NEW verison over the OLD version when 3.1.0 came out) also if you had read the new version (it still says it on the achievement table (( but not on the mouseover )) In Patch 3.1.0 the text will change to: New Text ) -- but it is ok the way it is now because [Blizzard] has moved all those NEW achievements (not the one that is changing text) from Lich King Raid to the Secrets of Ulduar Raid -- Heroic versions moved to Secrets of Ulduar Heroic Raid -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 22:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
On a side note - you made those new achievement pages into (/Subpages) and Sky does not want that -- that is why I had went and moved them all to their new names ( no subpage ) Dungeons & Raid achievements (General) used to be Dungeons and Raids achievements/General -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 22:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
I did have the Secrets of Ulduar (with the PTR stub on it ( because they were only on the PTR -- the ones I orinigaly was aking about is when you Removd the Stubs from and combined the tables on Lich King Raid and Lich King Heroic Raids ( that Tag the way I had it ) Seperated the Current achievements from the PTR changes / Additions - you made them Mixed up -- but now it is ok becaus the NEW ones are gone / moved to Secrets of Uldurar Raids now - with the new build 9722 -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 22:24, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I was saying this:

  1. You were the one that merged the old / new achievements together on Dungeons & Raids achievements (Lich King Raid) and Dungeons & Raids achievements (Lich King Heroic Raid) when you removed the {{Stub/PTR|<3.1.0>}} tags seperateing the 2 sets of achievements (Live Version and PTR version)
  2. There are 2 verions of the  Momma Said Knock You Out - the one I left in the top table list is the current LIVE verion of that achievement - the one I put in the lower table (below the PTR stub -- was what the achievement was changing to in Patch 3.1.0 and it had the text In Patch 3.1.0 the text will change to: New Text -- I left the same number on the new version so that when patch 3.1.0 came out we could (copy / past ) over the old achievement with the new achievement with ease - like you already did prematurely - but that is ok because of the new changes from build 9722
  3. Build 9722 moved all of the new achievement from the Dungeons & Raids achievements (Lich King Raid) and Dungeons & Raids achievements (Lich King Heroic Raid) pages to the new sectons Dungeons & Raids achievements (Secrets of Ulduar Raid) and Dungeons & Raids achievements (Secrets of Ulduar Heroic Raid) - so I removed teh {{Stub/PTR|<3.1.0>}} from the Old locations and had always had that tag on the NEW sections.
  4. You did a no no when you renamed the new sections as / sub pages! -- Sky does not want sub pages -- that is why I had went and Renames all the subpages and had changes all the links that went to them -- from Dungeons & Raids achievement/General to Dungeons & Raids achievements (General) I did that on every subpage of Dungeons & Raids achievemnts
That is all I was trying to reply to you as you left me replies -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 22:52, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I did that reference along time ago -- but the reason I did it at that time - was because I did see it 1st hand on the PTR server and did not get the information from MMO-Champion or World Of Raids or any site at all ( I was pointing out if you log into the PTR you would see it to ) meaning it was definitely not Datamined and such - but again that was done along time ago - that 1 time - I have not posted a self reference since then when someone else changed the links and said not to ( back then ) -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 16:29, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Northrend Gems

Wondering if you have any ideas how to make the Northrend gems table more friendly, or perhaps alternatives to that table that would be useful? I only looked at it after you brought it up, myself.

Perhaps a set of (smaller) tables/lists, per attribute? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:19, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh, it gets worse. Apparently there were pages for "Yellow Gems", "Red Gems" etc that in some cases had Northrend gems added to them, and in others became redirects to "Outland xxx Gems"... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:34, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm not a hardcore jeweler, I'm a hardcore engineer. So what I was thinking was pages along the lines of [[Outland red gems]] for both Outland and Wrath. Then combine them into pages like Outland gems, Yellow gems etc. Make the low lying tables the only part that transcludes, and you can slap different section headers up as desired.
This gives a set of useful pages for {{gems}}, as well. Retain the Northrend gem table for those who want it. I counted about 100 different Uncommon, and 100 other perfect uncommon, northrend gems alone. That's a powerful lot of gems to display in any fashion at all. So at that point, I am forced to yield the field to people with a greater interest in the result.
Would a table sortable by attribute (intellect, spirit, parry, etc) be useful?
And... the colored background doesn't do it for me. The color is too subtle to be seen without a lot of effort. ... Which kinda makes it less useful, dontchathink. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:56, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
How many patterns are world drops?" - Jewelcrafting recipes
Strength gems Spirit gems Defense gems and... in writing this reply, I have found myself drawn into "repairing" the highly broken system of gem pages, curse you! :) I'll avoid (as long as I can) doing any actual redesigning... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:16, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
Stat category gems - it is, though, what you wished for. I'm going to corral all those into some subcategory of the WoW gems category (got a good name), leaving only Gems by color and Gems by attribute in the main category. Whatcha think? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:23, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
What you're looking for is a template along the lines of what is at the top of Gems by color, yes? I was thinking specifically that Category:World of Warcraft jewelcrafting crafted gem items had a very large number of sorting pages... btw, what I mentioned above, Gems by attribute would have to be cut down to some subset... transcluding ALL the 'attribute gem' pages would create a monster. ... and that's with ALL the 'attribute gem' pages currently in need of updating to include northrend gems. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the  [Salt Shaker] cooldown was 72 hours minus 2 hours when I looked just before Patch 3.1.0. But there's conflicting information at [1]. It may be that the cooldown was reduced from 3 to 2 days in Patch 2.4.2 and the flavor text wasn't updated to match.

While engineers make it, leatherworkers use it, and the cooldown was actually on the LW, not the device. So it was reasonable to leave one in one's guild's vault, for community use at any time. (That's still a good use of bag space, since the device is not soulbound.) -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 20:42, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

RE: Been discussed that the first rank is linked.

So you just followed what Fandyllic said, ignoring "for simplicity, just link the first rank" and "rank 1 should probably be the linked one"? --g0urra[T҂C] 18:22, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay to nominate you for adminship?

I'm planning to nominate you for adminship, but I will hold off, if you're not okay with it. I added commented out nomination text under Project:Requests_for_adminship#Nominations, if you want to take a look. --Gengar orange 22x22.pngBeware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:13 AM PST 27 May 2009

Okay, the nomination is in. Please add any additional qualities you think are positives and that you accept the nomination. I will advertise this on the forums (Forum:Wowpedia general?) later today. --Gengar orange 22x22.pngBeware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 3:52 PM PST 27 May 2009

Bornak?

Who is this Bornak on MMO-Champion? Are his comments those from the development team? Are those notes on the official WoW forums? Having not heard of MMO-Champion before, I'm a bit reluctant to rely on it as a reference source for hotfix info links, should an officially maintained source be available. The info is detailed enough that I do not doubt it's accuracy; I'm just a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:28, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Bornakk. MMO Champion. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:35, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Discovered Bornakk on my own, but thank you nonetheless. Still on MMO Champion: does Bornakk's information appear on the official WoW forums (as well as on MMO Champion)? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:04, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm not really sure what you are referring to, but MMO Champion is basically a blue post/WoW news aggregation site. So it probably quoted something Bornakk said on the WoW forums. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:29, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes,Bornakk is a Blizzard poster on the forums. MMO Champion lists all the blue post on their site as well ( basicaly is blue tracker feature before Blizzard iniated their blue tracking feature on the forums.) If you look at MMO Champion carefully you will see other Blizzard posters on there as well. -- (<span="help title=Morph>M o r p h | <span="help title=Morph_Contribution(s)_to_this_Wiki>C | <span="help title=Morph_Discussion_Page>T) MorphgnomeMorphdraenei 22:07, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Took Howbizr's explanation for "why use MMO Champion for a reference" and added it to the MMO Champion page. Best have the explanation somewhere useful (as well as "under my nose"), eh? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:31, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Wowpedia AddOn updater

You're a Java developer? Have you seen Forum:Wowpedia AddOn Updater? It would require coding in Java, so I'd like to hear your perspective, if you care to provide it. Thanks! --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:00, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't think Kirkburn has the expertise to do it, but obviously someone at Wikia would probably have to be involved (for ad placement and such). I have a mediocre amount of Java experience, but as you noticed the documentation isn't very clear. Right now we are trying to figure out exactly what is required to implement it. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:06, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
