Guild:Refugees Raid Deleted, no apparent reason.

Greetings, I was rather puzzled to receive notification that you had deleted an informational entry for my raiding group. I also have to mention that the majority of the other Guilds and Raids listed on the Argent Dawn US raid progression article have not been deleted.

I am not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I would like some sort of explanation other than "go read about guild pages." I don't see that there was anything on that page which would violate anything on the creation guidelines.

Forgive me if the formatting doesn't come out right for this post, I am terribly noobish about wiki systems still, and wanted to make contact as soon as I could.

Thanks for the reply! I don't remember seeing it being marked with {{Stub/Guild}}, or I would have fixed the issue. Is there any way it can be reinstated so that I can fix it?

Guild: Tao of Odin

I'm new to creating content on WowWiki and the communications used so please let me know if this should go somewhere else or if there is a better method for communication. Can you please tell my why Tao of Odin's page was deleted at the beginning of the month? I would like to either remake it or create an entirely new page but obviously don't want to make the same mistake twice. Please let me know so I can ensure whatever was wrong doesn't happen again. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mariposah (talk · contr).

A question

I saw some days ago that I had been blocked by you on WoWWiki, 1 day in total, because a user named Geezalol had "used my IP address". I'm not sure what to make out of this! Do I have reason to be worried? How could this person be able to use my IP adress? Thanks in advance. --WoWWiki-Odolwa (talk) 08:28, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Template:Wrath-inline

What's wrong with having helpful template redirects? Is there a policy I'm not aware of against them. I know wikipedia's policies on the matter is

  1. Readers first
  2. Then editors
  3. Finally system

If it hurts the readers, don't do it. If it doesn't matter to the readers, but helps the editors, do it. If neither care, but affects the system performance or whatever, only then optimize for the system. Mckaysalisbury (talk) 22:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Usually, I notice it on a preview, because I try to remember to preview before save. But here's once when I did it: [1]. Here's another one for today. [2]. Also, I'm totally fine with it being a redirect, over a template re-transclusion. I don't really care. If it helps the system, great. Mckaysalisbury (talk) 22:44, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

noob question

Hi :) I have a question, I'm a complete noob to editing on wowwiki. I've read the Help:Ability articles page. If I find an ability page that is in different format than that described on Help:Ability_articles, for example, having bullet points instead of double enters, or a Tips header instead of Tips and Tactics, can I / should I correct this? Kil'jaeden

Could you explain to me why you deleted my Trivia add? I think that jaeden isnt a random-took name, just when i saw this name the first time i was pretty sure that there were some ulterior motives from blizzard by choosing this name. By the way in german ae is taken together to the letter "Ä" which is pronunciated the same way as an short englisch "E" like in the name Perry. If you would say to a german person and you dont know each "Kil'jaeden", the person would be 100% afraid. Salvathor (talk) 22:16, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Server page policies?

Hi Gourra,

Thank you for directing me to the guild page policies. I apologize for overstepping the bounds unwittingly. The data in question has since been restructured to be in line with the letter and intent of Wowwiki policy.

I was unable to find a similar policy guideline for server pages (eg. WW:SERVER). Please point me towards one if it exists. Having begun the process of massively restructuring my server's (Magtheridon US) pages, it would be spiritually devastating to find entire stubs deleted after putting so much time and care into them. Perhaps you'll have a moment to analyze a brief overview of my planned architecture, and let me know what would be acceptable or not.

Using a modular (transclusion-friendly) architecture, the stubs would be:

  • Server: Home page, navigation/general infobox
  • Server/PvP: PvP overview infobox
  • Server/Season X: Seasonal overview of all brackets
  • Server/Season X (Bracket): Integrated breakdown for more thorough data comparison than the Armory provides
  • Server/Raids: Raiding overview infobox (current era)
  • Server/Raid Zone: Dual-faction detailed history per boss
  • Server/Era RaidSize Faction: Factional progression scoreboard for 10, 25, or 40 man content of the era
  • Server/Schedule Faction: Factional schedule overview to help find guilds which fit potential applicants' lives
  • Server/Guilds: Dual-faction guild directory
  • Server/Recruitment Faction: Factional recruitment by class/role; Likely going to skip this as it might be too much work
  • Server/Tradeskill: Dual-faction tradeskill listings for rare and popular goods

Being new to wiki editing, I'm quite excited by the potential of this medium. While my guild already has an active website and forum, I'm considering an intra-guild oriented wiki for us (to manage tabular data such as professions, and full-bodied rosters). Are there any starter packages you'd suggest? Would it be possible to transclude source data from our guild-hosted wiki to Wowwiki's pages, thereby preserving your bandwidth? Thank you in advance for your guidance!

Cat Figurine

"It's the same thing." - Please explain. It seems to me that a landscape object and an inventory item are entirely different. Note that they have different external links. Madkaugh (talk) 18:48, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Another example is the  [Roughshod Pike]. In both cases, it's a landscape object with the concept that you "pick it up". It makes sense to talk about the two items on the same page because they are notionally the same object. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:49, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Ban'thok Sash

I changed the effects on  [Ban'thok Sash] in preperation for WOLTK since it is only a month away and I figured it would be a good idea to get ahead of all the changes. Why did you revert it? --Olioster (talk) 10:57, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Because the patch is not here yet. We're not changing any stats or the like on items until then; icons are fine. g0urra[T҂C] 11:12, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Mag'har on the races template

Gourra, you said that what I said is "like saying blood elves and high elves are the same thing".

May I ask how I said this?

BElves have several different unique characteristics from HElves.

An apparent fondness over the color red (BLOOD elves, after all), blonder hair, tan/peacher skin, green hair. Those are all things BElves have that HElves don't.

Mag'har on the other hand really only have one major difference from other orcs. Brown skin. Toran Wildpaw of the Frenzyheart (talk) 19:47, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, ok, now that I think about it, I remembered they build differently. But that hardly counts as a major difference if you ask me.

Honestly, putting Mag'har on there is like putting Azotha on there. Toran Wildpaw of the Frenzyheart (talk) 19:54, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Actually, High elves also liked the color red, for instance with clothes. To distinguish themselves from the Blood elves though they stopped wearing red because they did not want to be mistaken for Blood elves, who really embraced the color red with a vengeance, by other races. Mag'har are different in that they are fully uncorrupted orcs. The skin color is "brown" due to them not being in much contact with "corruption". So it is not just because they are "brown". It is the fact that they have not undergone any changes to their physiology or looks like the "green" orcs. At least that is the way I understand it all. This is similiar to how a fel orc is not the same thing as an orc like Thrall. As for the Azotha, I don't think I have read anything that would make them a different race from the "modern" humans. The language may have changed a bit so that Azotha writing would look archaic, but I don't think anything physiologicaly has changed to the race as a whole.Rolandius Paladin.gif (talk - contr) 01:47, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Sane?

You broke Cow (mob) into a separate article from Cow. This from the person who reverted splitting Cat Figurine vendor trash item from Cat Figurine landscape object with the comment "It's the same thing."

It is technically wrong anyway, in the WoW context a cow is a critter, not a mob. Madkaugh (talk) 01:52, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Wait to edit?

While I appreciate your incredible contribution to WoWWiki, sniping edits to be the first to create a page is a bit disconcerting and wastes people's time. I clearly moved the Riptide (ship) page because I was creating the new Riptide page for the Shaman spell. After working on the page for 15 min to get things right, I saved only to find that you had saved seconds before me. You obviously saw from the recent activity page that I had done that and jumped on the new Riptide page while I was still editing it. The problem with this is that we duplicated the work. I don't know how to remedy this in the future. Maybe I'll just create the stubs and write in the words 'Currently Editing' or something to prevent duplicitive work. Oddible (talk) 23:30, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

3.x Patches

Since you have a lock on the patch pages, I was shocked that no public information is being added to these. I've had the edit of the upcoming patch numbers, 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 all be removed because "wait until the patch numbers are released." Umm...they already have been. Jeff Kaplan specifically told Curse Gaming in an interview that these 3 patches are in the works, and that 3.1 is actually already done.

3.1 - Will contain the Ulduar instances/raids.

3.2 - Will be a yet announced instance.

3.3 - Opening of Icecrown Citadel and resolution of the Ashbringer story line.

There are also numerous patch notes on 3.0.3 already released, that aren't loaded on that patch's page.

Wiki's are community efforts to get as much information out there, that is accurate and available. Unfortunately with all these pages locked to only you, it is hard to do that.

It wasn't an interview btw, and it wasn't just with Curse :P I was there (and I can confirm these details). Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:30, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

TCG template

Hello. Perfectly. One remark: - quality can be better to make Value of different colours for example rare - blue, uncommon - green. Also it is necessary to solve with images. We will use the image of the whole card or the cut off part without the description? As for me it is better to use the whole part. Sorry for my English. --QuazaR (talk) 06:24, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
