Creating articles

I'm just going to say this once: do NOT create articles that just say "X is a subzone of Y", if you're going to create it then provide an image or something. You're not supposed to make an article just to remove a broken link. It's also very rude that you do that to a link that I just added, it didn't strike you that I would add it? --g0urra[T҂C] 09:47, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

Wait five minutes lol, I am on mmo champion, pickup the screen. That does not evil to create them all then add picture ain't it?
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 09:49, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

Dustwallow Marsh

What is your reason for this change? --g0urra[T҂C] 14:11, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

I guess I thought that subzones physically inside of another subzone could be written like I did (do I even make myself clear?).
For example Embestrife Den and Onyxia's Lair are in Wyrmbog.
I would tend to do it to all zones, if you agree thoses changes. If not, I will only change it for the town/capital/dugeon subzones.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 14:36, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking more it would apply to cities, but it may have uses outside those. --g0urra[T҂C] 07:19, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Gabrirt reverts

May I ask why you reverted his edits? They seem to be for no bad intentions - the only difference they make is that they have tooltips. --g0urra[T҂C] 07:20, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Because they were all reverted by Coobra in the first place
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 07:26, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
Aye... it's silly and pointless to {{NPC}} tag practically every name in an article, throughout the article, several times like so. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 07:31, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
So why are they linked that way in the first place? This and this edit (granted, linking them again in the conversation may seem unnecessary) were to add tooltips to links that already existed. If you're going to remove unnecessary number of links then remove those that were there in the first place, not revert someone who only had good intentions. I'd also like to point out Project:AGF which I find relevant in this case. --g0urra[T҂C] 07:56, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

Block of DanDober

3 months is simply an unacceptable time period for a block to a user with a) no warnings, b) not obvious vandalism, and c) without email or talk page editing enabled. --Sky (t · c) 18:59, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

I believe this and that are "obvious vandalism".
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 19:17, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
The former is obvious page blanking, but that does not imply vandalism. This is why you leave a warning. The second could simply have been the user removing the rest of his blanking; he might not know how to use the history function. Neither are obvious vandalism. --Sky (t · c) 19:23, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
Seems obvious to me, too; however, three months does seem a bit excessive. —EGingell (T|C|F) Treader of Cenarion Circle 19:59, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
I agree completely with the consequences for such actions. Three months seem fine. --Oponyxal / Arodeesa  talk  contr 18:17, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Lich King

Really sorry about any bad changes I made with the Lich King page and the relationship thing. I just REALLY enjoy the lore and thought that it wwould be a bit more interesting to just put down the relationships he head with the people he met in the story. Thanks for the edit:) and once again really sorry if I messed up the page.

Hammer of the Righteous

As it stands atm, it seems Hammer of the Righteous will now damage all targets, as opposed to the hitting 3/4 targets. Hardened Elementium Bar versus Enchanted Elementium Bar

I noticed you deleted the page on  [Hardened Elementium Bar] and moved the contents to the  [Enchanted Elementium Bar] page. I wanted to point out that as of right now on live, it's still called "Hardened Elementium Bar." It won't get changed to Enchanted Elementium Bar (a better name imo) until either 4.0.3 or 4.0.3a. I wasn't sure how it would be best to restore the page though. Should the enchanted elementium redirect to hardened elementium, or should hardened elementium redirect to a page named after an item that doesn't currently exist on the live realm? Either way, Hardened Elementium shouldn't be deleted entirely. Dr. Cheis (talk) 19:33, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, we'll leave a redirect from Hardened to Enchanted until the Beta is Live.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Instancefooter

May I ask why you decided to replaced {{Dungeons}} with Instancefooter? Was there any reason to, especially after I cleaned it up? --g0urra[T҂C] 16:30, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Well that remained a big template even after your draft.
So I went ahead and rushed toward Lon-ami suggestion of an Instancefooter ala Bookfooter.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 16:32, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Sure, it was a bigger template, but you could choose what you wanted to see. The Dungeons template was a mess with all the icons and that you had to see them all, and I categorized it by expansion/game. Did that not occur to you? --g0urra[T҂C] 16:36, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Sure I see the categorization, but that still made something "extra-large"
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 16:37, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
What point are you trying to make? The difference between the sizes isn't that much bigger. --g0urra[T҂C] 16:38, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
I hope you are joking about size, else I would say you need my blind-glasses.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 16:41, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
So it's a little bigger, so what? Are you trying to make an argument that in order to make it smaller you'll sacrifice accessibility? --g0urra[T҂C] 16:44, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
It occurs to me that the reverse argument is true too. You would make a mammoth template to have more accessibility?
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 16:48, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
I would - it would mean you can get from instance to instance easier, instead of having to click an unnecessary amount of times to get there. Either way Dungeons is set to be collapsed by default, does that make it better for you? --g0urra[T҂C] 16:50, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
A'noob is right, a more narrow scope is a good idea to break down the hulking mess that is {{Dungeons}}. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:52, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Sir Zeliek

Sir Zeliek

Disagreement on the Lore here. Can you hop over and make a decision on it?

Commander Eligor Dawnbringer

The most powerful Death Knights within Naxxramas are the four horsemen. They represent the pinnacle of Kel'Thuzad's guard. The first, Thane Korth'azz, holds the power of flame. The next, Lady Blaumeux, calls forth the power of shadows, drawing the souls of the living into the voracious embrace. Sir Zeliek, a paladin in life, so strong in his faith, that even in undeath, the power of the light still heeds his call, smiting his foes in battle. The final Death Knight, Lord Mograine, was the finest warrior that the Death Knights had ever seen. However, after the events in Azeroth, he vanished without a trace. Kel'Thuzad has appointed Baron Rivendare in his place.

Just to provide the info I was using to call him a Death Knight and not an undead Paladin.

Basically he is stated in game as a Death Knight that can use the Holy Light due to his faith in life. I don't think that qualifies him as an undead Paladin via subjective reasoning.

Oooh my dear, why didn't you say it at loud! Everyone can do it!
Go under Preferences, Gadgets, Labs and check the two functionalities: generate item pages and generate quest pages.
On a new article, click the drop down menu, then Create item tooltip, then Ok.
But beware of heroic item! The bot will create the heroic item by default, so you will have to give it the Normal item ID to create it.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 08:58, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
I know how to use it. :-) I was suggesting you copy the patch data and template with the quest chain and paste them into the newly created pages manually so as to prevent http://www.wowpedia.org/index.php?title=Students_of_Krastinov&oldid=2574723 from happening, that's all. --Bellocois (talk) 09:02, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Your opinion is desired.

Hey A'noob, the War against Deathwing article is constantly changed to include Malfurion as an Alliance commander, while he actually doesn't take part in the conflict similar to Lady Liadrin, Hamuul Runetotem, Varok Saurfang or even Thrall who are not listed. Could you please visit Talk:War against Deathwing and discuss. I really think he doesn't fit there, as he is more neutral as leader of Cenarion Circle (just like the 4 Horde commanders who simply do not take part in the war eventhough they're in the Horde). I've just updated the Economical alchemy training page so that it can be merged with the Alchemy leveling guide. Shouldn't that section just be made into a trivia note? Like "When suggested to train under the Archbishop by his father, Prince Anduin felt that there was something not right about him, which would proves true with the Benedictus's identity as the Twilight Father." Apparitions with setbacks...

Under "minor setbacks" you left a comment "IN ORDER OF FIRST RE-APPARITION". I am puzzling over your meaning of "Re-apparition". Perhaps you can describe what you mean by this. Are you arguing for some temporal criteria? By expansion/WoW version? By time in the WoW chronology (which is noted to change occasionally, with new expansions)? Or are you talking about characters that have returned to life or plot (the "apparition" part of that statement)? And while I might intend a little bit of humor in poking at this, I am honestly puzzled. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:23, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

I mean it like when the character appears in the story.
In-game it is sorted by expansion, and inside an expansion it is sorted on the "level needed" to encouter the character
"re-apparition" is when you meet again a character, previously thought to have be killed/defeated
Does it help?

Roleplaying Outfit and Roleplaying Gear

Can you please unite the histories of these pages? Neia Pique (talk) 10:38, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

This is not a rename/move, so history cannot be merged.

IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 10:42, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
The history of two articles can be easily mergered, especcially in this case (I know it, because I am one of wikipedia-sysop). This is enough simple procedure:
  1. Rename Roleplaying Gear into Roleplaying outfit (rewrite RG over Ro).
  2. Restore versions from 22 July 2006 to 5 September 2011 from deleted history.
  3. Back-rename Roleplaying outfit into Roleplaying Gear.
Neia Pique (talk) 10:52, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 11:06, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
The article Roleplaying outfit has existed long before Sigil's edits. The initial editors must be correctly attributed in new history, or content of Roleplaying Gear must be moved to Roleplaying outfit with link both to source and new/author (Sigil). So, I don't understand why do you refuse to make this simple procedure in this simple case for correct attribution of initial editors, very usual for wikiprojects with GFDL and/or CC-BY-(SA)-(NC) licenses. Second, as in direct successor with no intermediaries? Not any of the several other people I feel are detracting from the quality of the wiki?--SWM2448 18:08, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Second because he got the permaban (and with no great debate :p)
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 18:19, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Other users have been permabanned since him, no? And would not there need to be a great debate to match the ilk of... "Mr. R"?--SWM2448 18:32, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
There's no similarity between "Mr. R" and Ultimatex apart from that they were a thorn in the side of the admins (and regulars) and that they were both permabanned. I don't see any reason to continue this discussion, thank you very much. --g0urra[T҂C] 18:35, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Can't we troll anymore?
Bully! :p

Actual trolls should be banned. Speaking of trolls and Rolandius, check this link out. It seems trolls are who they are.--SWM2448 18:51, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I don't see him completely as a troll, just someone who fell victim to unwritten rules (Capitalized Sections vs Capitalized sections) and norms that had been established by the community. He was trying to be genuinely helpful, but maybe on too many areas. Needless spacing I can understand (heck he did it on WoWWiki too), as well as capitalization that isn't needed, but it was very harsh. What made his downfall was that he has a hard time working on what he was being critized because of. In the end that annoys to no end, and such caused him to get permabanned. --g0urra[T҂C] 19:17, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Beyond the Dark Portal icons

It says in http://books.google.com/books?id=YHSEI_Mz0JMC&q=Varian#v=snippet&q=Varian&f=false that Varian is already a young king in Beyond the Dark Portal. He was crowned at 18 and an equal member of the Alliance. He is no longer a child in my opinion at this point and since Arthas is not much younger than him, neither should he. (Sports72Xtrm (talk))

When Azeroth was razed by the orcs, Varian was a child. His coronation happened very long time after the 2nd War, he was under regency of Lother for years starting at the end of the 1st war

New Outland and Northrend Old Dungeon Quests

Some dungeon quests that existed prior to patch 4.3.0 have their names used for the new dungeon quests. You changed the way I changed the page for [[Lost_in_Action_(old)]], that I named the way this one was named [[Turning_the_Tide_(original)]] (I did a small mistake with the capital O, but that's off topic right now).

I was wondering how we should name those depreciated quests that have their name re-used, so they all share the same format? How would you have it? I was thinking about working on those tomorrow (Sunday the 4th), so I'd like to know the opinion of an admin before toying with all these articles. Guyomeprime (talk) 08:50, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

I see many (old) ones for quests and (original) for dungeons.
I would say (old) is better, but this can be put to vote.
Anyway sharing the same format would be nice
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 09:09, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
All right. I've settled to go with the "old school" model, since, as you said, many quests that aren't in the game anymore have the (old), and I'm doing stuff about quests. I'll go with this one.Guyomeprime (talk) 03:11, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Removing complete names from book categories

Was there any special reason to do that? I though we agreed ages ago to leave them like that because it was good for them to show the entire name, to avoid confusions and be as clear as possible :S.--Lon-ami (talk) 16:15, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

We removed those tags from the Article name, it was confusing to have the category keep those tags.
I find them clearer this way. I'm still looking for ideas for Alliance, Death Knight, Horde, Mage, Shaman, The Comic.

NPC article names

NPC articles should be named using the in-game name of the NPC, including any eventual titles or ranks. This should be completely clear from the High Executor Darthalia, Archmage Pratt, Master Shang Xi examples on Project:NNA. Furthermore, I don't quite see the point of creating redirects from the proper titles to non-existing pages with improper ones. — foxlit (talk) 17:52, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I keep on thinking that WP:NNA should not have been changed. If we have a first-name and family-name, whatever the source might be, we should use them.
The policy vote lasted from April 2011 to November 2011, was answered by 5 users, and was left to rot until April 2012 when it suddently got a "Ratified" tag.
Sound like an ÜBER-JOKE to me!

I read it, both arguments, I honestly did.... it just gave me a headache. x_X; --Mondoblasto (talk) 08:31, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
Aside from users' arguments, do you have an opinion? there is no need to give an explanation, just choose the option you prefer.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 08:34, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
I see that you're continuing to ignore WP:NNA. It would be better if you simply crated redirects from Alys Finnsson and Wizzle Doomsday to the NPC-named articles, rather than moving the latter to the former. — foxlit (talk) 15:54, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
I keep on hoping that the Recall I initiated will pass and I will not have to move back the hundred of NPCs I already moved those last years.
No bad feelings! ;)

WoW icon categories

I think the original intention with the Category:WoW Icons structure was that the subcategories were based on the file name, not on how the icon was used in-game. This usually makes it possible for a bot to guess which category an icon should be put in, reducing the amount of icons that are dumped in the root category and require human attention.

Adding categories like Category:WoW Icons: Achievement Boss Serpentshrine Cavern causes problems with automatic categorization (as categories are no longer derivable from file names), creating more human-requiring work down the line. I'm not really sure what to do about any of that -- perhaps dumping everything into the root category and waiting for people to sort it out is fine; perhaps the semantic categorization on this level is unnecessary, or should be done in a parallel category structure.

You should probably consider updating WP:ICON's list of categories. — foxlit (talk) 14:39, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, in fact, only the bosses and instances have been given a manual name, but I'm feeling like I may need to reverse this, even thought it's a pain when you search an icon

Amberrock

Even it is just a day, but he should not be banned... I know that I am in not right to speak about this but... judging from his comment, his edit was not violent and even I think that he was unaware that the info about Jaina & Kirin Tor were not official and that it cant be added here. As he was not first to add this info, but he was the first to be banned for this. I remember Atomos and his same edit and he was not banned for this (or was?) just warned in his page. --Mordecay (talk) 11:01, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

A quick glance at his user history indicates (to me, at least) that he's been around more than long enough that he should know the rule. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:40, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
I moved this here since the original violations entry is removed; seemed like a better place for it. — foxlit (talk) 19:44, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
Though it seems my brethen disagree, I moved in for a small block, as the info had already been added and removed by other users and that Amberrock was old enough to have known the rule of Project:DUC.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 04:52, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
I do disagree with the block for a number of reasons. Project:DNP suggests only sanctioning users who persist in posting DNP content (i.e. do so repeatedly despite being personally reverted/warned), and even then defers to the vandalism policy, which more or less requires a warning before a block. The "wiki age" of an editor does not necessarily reflect familiarity with policies, nor is there a benefit to blocking people with a long history of contributions faster than blocking newbies. I don't think it's relevant that a different user has added the same information previously and has been reverted -- expecting people to consult the article history to determine if what they're editing has been reverted previously is probably unreasonable, and actually impossible since people started hiding revision content ("potentially libelous information" about a fictional character?).
Finally, it's really unpleasant to be on the receiving end of a block, no matter how small, and it'd be a shame if this unpleasantness caused us to lose editors to one-time policy violations. It seems to me that we'd be much better off using blocks as a measure of last resort, rather than as a wordless reminder to follow policy. — foxlit (talk) 11:19, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
I'd like to thank all of you who were so eager to defend me. And yes, I concur with the reasons Foxlit stated. I'm sorry for posting DNP-content, but I was honestly trying to improve Wowpedia here. IconSmall Amberrock.pngAMBER(ЯΘ<K) 12:22, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
