Name

Shouldn't this page just be "Jailer" and the demon race be "Jailer (demon)"? More people are definitely going to come here looking for the SHL character than the demons. ReignTG (talk) 22:09, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

We're usually reluctant when it comes to putting parentheses in racial names :/ Xporc (talk) 22:10, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
This is fine in my opinion. Hopefully we may get a name for him at some point. PeterWind (talk) 00:41, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
I agree with PeterWind. I imagine that, in-game, his NPC name will be either "The Jailer" or a proper name of some sort, at which point we can move the page to that instead. (Just like we have beast for the creature type and The Beast for the specific boss.) -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 15:37, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

Jailer of the Damned

The Wowhead article where the Jailer is referred to as the "Jailer of the Damned" seems to just be a summary of the What's Next panel, but AFAIK, he was only ever called "the Jailer" at the panel and not "Jailer of the Damned". It therefore seems to me like calling him "Jailer of the Damned" is either a mistake or speculation on Wowhead's part. I think it'd be best to remove the "also known as the Jailer of the Damned" part from the article, unless/until Blizzard officially confirms the name. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 21:48, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Rename to The Jailer

As seen in-game, his name is 'The Jailer'. We normally don't include 'A's or 'The's in names, unless it's a proper name. So we don't have to include a disambiguating parenthetical for the primary antagonist of the expansion, we'll refer to him as "The Jailer". --k_d3 01:04, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

"True Name"

Shouldn't references to that be kept out of the article until the expansion releases? No knowing if his name will remain after release or not. Meganerd18 (talk) 05:00, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Do we KNOW he's THE end boss?

Do we know if the Jailer is THE end boss or is it just speculation? --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Geemun (talk · contr).

Blizzard has said so multiple times. If it will remain truth, time will tell. --Ryon21 (talk) 10:04, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Move

Now that we have many confirmations, I guess we could move this page to [Zovaal]. --Ryon21 (talk) 23:55, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

It feels wrong to move this page to Zovaal. While that may be his true name, he is almost never referred to as such; virtually everything in-game and out calls him The Jailer. --Dark T Zeratul 16:47, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Jailer end boss not confirmed

New interview on VG24/7 casts doubt on whether the Jailer is the end-boss of the expansion. Reported on IcyVeins and WoWhead

https://www.vg247.com/2020/11/19/world-of-warcraft-shadowlands-interview-delays-balance-minority-representation/

VG247: At the beginning of BfA we didn’t know who we would be fighting at the end of it. That was a move away from some past expansions, when the box art would be who would be facing in the final raid. Is the Jailer with Shadowlands a move towards having a big end-game boss we can set our sights on, or is it going to be more like N’zoth in BfA, where we don’t know until later in the game?

Ely Cannon: So, with all our storytelling in each new game that we release we’re going to make choices specific to the story we want to tell. That seemed like a really good choice with BfA, but it doesn’t necessarily set a tone for anything we’ll do in the future. In the case of N’zoth, that surprise ending was the right choice. Here in Shadowlands, we’re making this story as poignant and as fun to experience as possible.

Johnny Cash: The Jailer is absolutely one of the primary antagonists of the expansion. He is a significant person we’re going to have to deal with at some point, right. But as far as how that story all comes together, who’s X boss in Y raid, that’s something I don’t want to spoil because I think all the fun is getting there.

Ely Cannon: I don’t think we want to get too serialised in the way we tell stories either, right, we always want to tell the right story and tell it at the right times.

VG247: So… not necessarily the last raid boss of the expansion?

Johnny Cash: We make decisions depending on how things evolve. We have lots of ideas, but we also don’t want to set everything in stone one way or the other. --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Uldrecht (talk · contr).

Jailer Voice Actor

Do we have an accurate source for The Jailer's voice actor? As Edward Bosco is only credited as Additional Voices on the internet. Personally, he sounds more like Patrick Seitz. --Lord Valremathras (talk) 17:29, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Following a link from his Wowpedia article to his website, the latter has a banner slideshow at the top displaying characters from various franchises that he claims credit for voicing. It shows The Jailer as being one of those. -- Alayea (talk) 18:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Move to Jailer

Have seen a lot of people confused about the fact that the Jailer page isn't actually about the Jailer, but some minor race of demons instead. It's like if the Lich King page didn't belong to the Lich King but to some type of liches who are kings.

I've suggested on Discord moving The Jailer to Jailer (while keeping the redirect), and the current content of Jailer to Jailer (demon). People seemed in favor of it but I thought I'd run it by here as well, since it's probably going to require a bot to move the links. Aye or nay?-- MyMindWontQuiet (talk) 20:35, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Aye. Zovaal is an important character. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 20:36, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm indifferent. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 20:43, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
At this point of the story shouldn't we move this page to Zovaal? --Ryon21 (talk) 20:45, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
With 9.1 I'm starting to come around to that, as more and more he's being referred to by name instead of by his title. But even if we do, I think "Jailer" should still redirect to him instead of the demons. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 20:51, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
I'd prefer Zovaal too if there's a move. If the jailer race page gets moved, it should be to a name without parentheses (such as Demonic jailer as mentioned by Ryon here) as they cause some problems IIRC. --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 21:08, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
Yea this was also brought up and can be solved with a new displayrace parameter. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 21:33, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
I agree with Ryon21, during 9.1, we hear more often Zovaal than the Jailer, and it will most certainly continue in this direction.WardsJames (talk) 00:09, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Like I wrote on the Discord, moving the page to Zovaal makes more sense now than it would've during 9.0. Back then he was only called Zovaal in a few places (the Primus' message, most notably), but now Bolvar, Sylvanas, and others are calling him by his name as well. I'm fine with either "Jailer" or "Zovaal" as a page name. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 08:57, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
