Biography
World of Warcraft
Seeking fame and fortune, the Lost Dwarves took on a contract from the Explorers' League to clear a path for a group of researchers in Uldaman, but instead they ended up getting hopelessly lost inside the complex[4] just before the troggs awoke and overran the dig site. The brothers became trapped behind enemy lines at Dig Two,[6] where they spent a lot of time killing and dismembering Stonevault troggs.[7] Olaf made a bet with Baelog that his beard would grow to his knees before they saw another non-trogg, but Alliance adventurers sent by Prospector Stormpike found the group while Olaf still had a few inches left.[6] Since the brothers were stuck at Dig Two, Baelog informed the adventurers about a method he'd found to open the Chamber of Khaz'mul in their stead and told them to report back to Stormpike.[8] When Horde adventurers entered Uldaman, Olaf and his brothers fought them to keep the secrets of the vault and the Explorers' League from falling into Horde hands.[4]
Cataclysm
The Lost Dwarves made it out of Uldaman to Dragon's Mouth in the Badlands. Rheastrasza enlisted them to help an Alliance adventurer kill the leaders of the black dragonflight that had invaded the region in search of the purified black dragon egg.[1] The adventurer practiced with the dwarves, with Olaf demonstrating his defensive abilities,[3] after which the brothers helped the adventurer kill Velarok the Annihilator,[9] General Jirakka, Moldarr,[10] and finally Nyxondra[11] before parting ways with them.[12]
Warlords of Draenor
The Lost Dwarves traveled to Draenor to participate in the war against the Iron Horde, but got imprisoned in the Bloodmaul Slag Mines for several days. They escaped, but Olaf lost his beloved shield in the process. The distraught dwarf visited the Lunarfall Inn (Alliance) and Frostwall Tavern (Horde) to ask adventurers to get his shield back for him.[13] The brothers returned to the Slag Mines several times, since Eric and Baelog believed that there was treasure at the bottom. In the escape from one such trip, Olaf lost his shield once more and had to ask adventurers for help again.[14]
Dragonflight
The Lost Dwarves returned to Uldaman in search of riches and fame.[15] Although they knew from their last visit how to open the Chamber of Khaz'mul with the Staff of Prehistoria, the presence of the trogg chieftain Bromach in the Map Chamber kept them out and forced them to stay in their old camp at Dig Two,[16] where they spent so much time digging for riches that it muddled their senses and made them unable to tell friend from foe. When adventurers entered Uldaman in search of the Discs of Tyr, the Lost Dwarves therefore attacked them in the belief that they were intruders who wanted to steal their riches. The adventurers defeated the dwarves, causing their heads to clear. In gratitude,[15] the dwarves opened the Chamber of Khaz'mul for the adventurers and helped them enter the Hall of the Keepers.[16] The "lunkheaded" Olaf helped open the way into Sentinel Talondras' locked room by charging into a pillar with his shield to knock it down. As the adventurers progressed through the vault's defenses, the Lost Dwarves stayed behind to search for treasures in Talondras and Emberon's rooms while the adventurers kept going in search of the Discs.[17]
Later, the Lost Dwarves appeared out of a time portal at Eon's Fringe in Thaldraszus. Before a Timewalker could help get them home, the brothers decided to visit Valdrakken. Olaf went to the Parting Glass inn and threw a one-dwarf dance party that annoyed the other patrons, until an adventurer turned off his jukebox and beat him up to convince him to return to Eon's Fringe.[18]

Trivia
- Olaf is based on Olaf the Stout, one of the Lost Vikings in Blizzard's classic game series of the same name.
- Olaf wears green clothes and a horned helmet in his pre-Dragonflight appearances, like Olaf in the first The Lost Vikings game. In Dragonflight he instead wears blue clothes and a winged helmet, similar to Olaf in The Lost Vikings 2 and Heroes of the Storm.
[Olaf's All Purpose Shield], which drops from the Uldaman boss encounter, is a reference to the fact that Olaf in The Lost Vikings could use his shield to slowly fall down steep areas.
- In Dragonflight, Olaf is voiced by Carlos Larkin, who also voices the Lost Viking Olaf in Heroes of the Storm.
