Rating appears in the LFG tool

Mythic+ Rating tracks a player's progress through Mythic+ dungeons of increasing difficulty by scoring their best performances in each dungeon on [Fortified] and [Tyrannical] affixes.

Keystone Base Score
2 40
3 45
4 55
5 60
6 65
7 75
8 80
9 85
10 100
11+ +5 each

Every keystone level has a hidden base score, the number of points awarded if it were completed exactly on time. +2 begins at 40 score, and each higher key adds 5. Additionally, +4 and +7 are worth double and +10 is worth triple.[1]

Completing the dungeon faster yields a small increase, not exceeding the jump to a higher level. Completing it a little slower yields points comparable to a keystone two levels easier; however, a lengthy delay (>40% beyond the timer) awards zero score.[2]

The best performance in each dungeon is multiplied by 150%, and the best with a different affix (between Fortified and Tyrannical) is multiplied by 50%.[1] These two are added together, along with scores from all other dungeons.

Rewards

The Mythic+ Rating awards seasonal achievements like  [Keystone Master] and it unlocks superior gear upgrades available during the season.

Shadowlands

Shadowlands This section concerns content related to Shadowlands.

During Shadowlands, the Rating awarded [Valor] that can be used to purchase gear upgrades. Players may combine superior performance in some dungeons with inferior performance in others; however, the rating thresholds are tuned to require completing all dungeons with both Fortified and Tyrannical affixes.

With Season 3, it introduced a new line of achievements called Keystone Hero with required a rating of 3000 while the other achievements increased the rating they required (900, 1850, 2500). The Keystone Hero achievement wouldn't make a return with Season 4 but would make its return starting with Dragonflight Season 1.

Dragonflight

Dragonflight This section concerns content related to Dragonflight.

The Ratings for Dragonflight provided different forms of upgrading with its seasons. Season 1 continued with the [Valor] currency upgrade system that has been used in Shadowlands. Season 2 brought changes to upgrading gear by introducing Shadowflame Crests and [Flightstones]. Season 3 continued what Season 2 started.

Each run can provide 12x fragments for a given crest else it'll provide 5x fragments if the dungeon wasn't completed under the time.

M+ Level S2 Crest type S3 Crest type
0-5  [Whelpling's Shadowflame Crest Fragment] [Whelpling's Dreaming Crest]

11-15  [Wyrm's Shadowflame Crest Fragment] [Wyrm's Dreaming Crest]

With Dragonflight Season 4, the M+ levels were squished and with this, [Whelpling's Awakened Crest] is no longer earnable from Mythic+ while the [Drake's Awakened Crest] is only earnable from level 0 or just regular Mythic difficulty.

Trivia

Mythic+ Rating was inspired by the Raider.IO AddOn, which required players to frequently update their AddOn for the latest data.

Adding rating to the game was met with some controversy. Proponents argued it was only targeted at players who were likely already using external AddOns, while critics felt its introduction would tempt others to unfairly screen players from unrelated content.[3] This controversy compares to attitudes when World of Warcraft: Cataclysm added item level to the game (replacing the gear score AddOn); however, it was also a proxy for the clashing counter-cultures between players who enjoy timed and untimed content in World of Warcraft.
