Morelan Vanyst, the nephew of Bolten Vanyst, is left as the regent lord of the Vanyst family when his uncle leaves on a campaign. Having lost his wife when she gave birth to their son, Morelan would become close with the wife of Tyrathan Khort as their children played together. Hearing and believing of Khort's passing in Pandaria, Morelan would join the Pandaria campaign in order to prove that he could be brave. His uncle, ever a schemer, was quick to use his nephew to further his ambitions.
After Tyrathan Khort's efforts against the Zandalari, Khal'ak ordered Captain Nir'zan to discover his identity by attacking the Alliance and taking human prisoners. Morelan and a group of fellow soldiers were subsequently attacked and only the timely intervention of Khort and his allies rescued him from captivity. Hoping and yet fearing, Morelan demanded to know where Tyrathan Khort was; pointing out he would recognize those arrows anywhere and did not believe Vol'jin when he said that there was no Tyrathan Khort. After Vol'jin claimed to have killed Khort, Morelan paled while mentioning the rumors of Vol'jin's death. Morelan, seemingly in a state of shock, was then led back to the Alliance by Sister Quan-li, where Tyrathan surmised that his escape from the Zandalari will prove all that needs proving, thus making Morelan a hero.[1]
