The khansguard[1][2][3] is a force of Teerai centaur who serve as the personal guards of the Khanam Matra, currently Khanam Matra Sarest. They are "the elite of the elite"[2] and are led by their captain, Khansguard Akato.
History
After Balakar Khan and Clan Nokhud betrayed the other clans and tried to take control of Maruukai, khansguard warriors helped defend the city alongside Shikaar hunters and Ohn'ir mystics.[4] Shortly after, Sarest sent orders to Khansguard Jebotai to mobilize the remaining khansguard in Teerakai.[1] Jebotai relayed the orders to Khansguard Hojin, who boasted that the guards would "drag [Balakar] before the Khanam Matra in irons", but privately told adventurers that although the khansguard were strong, they were badly outnumbered by the Nokhud.[2]
After the Nokhud attack on the Horn of Drusahl, Sarest took the khansguard (along with adventurers and Scout Tomul) with her to confront Balakar at the Horn.[3] However, upon arrival, Sarest told the guards to stay behind and defend a position outside the village while she and the adventurers advanced inside.[5]
