Iron Ore can be prospected with a Classic Jewelcrafting skill of 1 or more.

Patch changes
Patch 10.0.2 (2022-11-15): Stacks to 1000, up from 200. 
Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Each expansion now has a separate profession skill bar, with smaller caps for each expansion, instead of one gigantic profession skill bar for all expansions put together.
- Iron Ore now requires Classic Mining skill of 1 to be mined (down from 100) and 100 to be smelted.
- Iron Ore now requires Classic Jewelcrafting skill of 1 to prospect, down from the previous 125.
Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Stacks to 200, up from 20. 
Patch 2.0.1 (2006-12-05): Now prospectable.

- [Citrine] drop rate from iron has been reduced.
