— Hansel Heavyhands

Hansel Heavyhands is a Dark Iron dwarf affiliated to the Thorium Brotherhood in the Searing Gorge. For some reason, he is very large for a dwarf, almost orcish in bulk.

History

World of Warcraft

Hansel was tasked by Taskmaster Scrange and Master Smith Burninate to deal with Incendosaurs in the Cauldron but was unable to because of his sore feet. In the same way, he also had to deal with Greater Lava Spiders across the Searing Gorge, but got a cold because of the "frigid climate". The adventurers of the Horde and Alliance eventually accomplished both missions in his stead.[1][2]

Cataclysm

Following the Cataclysm, Hansel was tasked with more missions but more troubles appeared - the climate combined with the lack of air pressure made his fingers expand, leaving him unable to do anything. He thus asked the adventurers to destroy enemy golems in the Pyrox Flats.[3] At some point, Overseer Oilfist tasked Hansel (who left his work to adventurers) to kill three ministers of the Twilight's Hammer, namely Kiyuubi, Letherio, and Finister, and bring back their artifacts.[4]

He later called upon the adventurers, as he needed fire from living elementals in order to smith various Brotherhood's tools and explosives.[5] Since the Brotherhood was at war with the Dark Iron clan and the Twilight's Hammer, Hansel had the adventurers find an independent dwarf, Mountain-Lord Rendan, who eventually agreed to help their cause for a price.[6]

Warlords of Draenor

By the time of the war in Draenor, Hansel had joined the Alliance. During the Assault on the Dark Portal, he and Thaelin Darkanvil served as demolitions experts in the combined Alliance and Horde force, blowing a chamber where Cho'gall was held prisoner.[7] When the Dark Portal was deactivated, he accompanied Khadgar's group through the eastern camps. After Khadgar flooded Blackrock Quarry, Hansel asked the adventurer to bring him explosives which he used to blow up a building.[8] He then joined in a fight under the Iron Worldbreaker. Afterward, Hansel and the others escaped Tanaan when Khadgar teleported them to Shadowmoon Valley.[9]

Alongside Burrian Coalpart, Scorchbrow, and others, Hansel later ventured into Gorgrond originally to spy on the Blackrock clan, as no one knows how to fight Blackrocks better than Dark Iron dwarves.[10] They got separated but Hansel and his group managed to build a station which they named Moira's Reach.[11] They soon located an artifact in the hands of the Botani and the dwarves decided to take it. They were, however, captured, and some of them even killed, but Hansel managed to return to the base which was under the attack of goren.[12] They eventually took the  [Will of the Genesaur] under the base.[13] Reunited with Thaelin and Burrian, the dwarves blasted the Bastion's cannon to aid in the fight against the genesaur Iyu.[14]

Some time later, he arrived to Nagrand where he tried to release the draenei captives in Telaar from the hands of the Warsong orcs. He was unsuccessful and was captured but soon released by the commander. He returned to Telaari Station and commanded the adventurers to deal with the ogres in Mar'gok's Overwatch as well as with the Burning Blade orcs in Hallvalor.

Afterward, he arrived at Thaelin's secret station in Gorgrond, but orcs found it.[15] They tied Hansel up but took Thaelin. With the help of the commander, both dwarves were rescued and returned to Lunarfall for a brief time.[16][17]
