World of Warcraft: Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth is an anthology of 12 Warcraft short stories by various authors. The stories mainly consist of in-universe tales and legends grounded in the various cultures of Azeroth. The World of Warcraft team and the authors researched established legends within the Warcraft mythos—including elements that they thought deserved more attention—alongside "harebrained ideas" that worked out better than expected as well as inspiration from real-world myths and fairy tale tropes. As stated in the book's introduction by one of its editors, Allison Irons, the authors were free to explore Azeroth through their own vision using direction from the Warcraft team. As such, "some of the tales you'll encounter here may be rooted in canon, or they may be another traveler just telling a tall tale."[1] According to Catherynne M. Valente, the idea behind the anthology is that the deeds of the characters became so famous that they turned into legends.[2]
