- During the Mists of Pandaria beta, his name was Elder Sage Skygale and his title was <Elders Quartermaster>.[1] Though he couldn't be interacted with at the time, it was planned that players could obtain items from him with Elder Tokens,[2] which could be earned by helping certain reputation factions.
- Another non-final name for him may have been Fortunate Fu. During the beta, the objectives text for [87] The Shrine of Two Moons listed Fortunate Fu instead of Elder Liao, and the "Speak to Fortunate Fu" objective would complete after speaking to Elder Liao.[3]

Hotfix (2014-04-28):
- Elder Lin and Elder Liao now have significantly more health.
- [Requires a realm restart.] Elder Lin and Elder Liao will now respawn much more quickly.
