Death-Hunter Renthar Hawkspear, previously Ranger Lord Renthar Hawkspear, is a rare high elf ranger found south of the Quel'Lithien Lodge in the Eastern Plaguelands.
He is taller than some of his fellow rangers, with a muscled physique and a commanding figure. He has black hair and a strong, sharp face.[2]
History
Sylvanas
By the time of the Second War, Ranger Lord Renthar was the leader of the hunters at Quel'Lithien Lodge. When Lireesa and Verath Windrunners were slain south of the Alliance's Northwatch Tower, Renthar and other Farstriders went to investigate the area. He briefly spoke with their daughter Sylvanas about how it was likely the Amani trolls, but they eventually concluded that it was the Old Horde as well.[3]
In the Shadow of the Sun
Some time before the war against the Lich King, Renthar Hawkspear, now leader of the Quel'Lithien Lodge high elves, was approached by the Regent Lord of Quel'Thalas, Lor'themar Theron. Though initially under the impression that Lor'themar had come to apologize on behalf of Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, Hawkspear was taken aback to learn of the Prince's demise. When he asked who would take the crown, Lor'themar replied that none remained with a right to it.
Lor'themar then referenced the slightly better state of the Ghostlands and offered the quel'dorei aid and supplies. Renthar, however, angrily declined his assistance -- and revealed that Lor'themar had banished the quel'dorei of the lodge from Quel'Thalas, as he could not afford to lead a people divided. In addition, Hawkspear spoke of Horde agents who ransacked the lodge and killed several rangers, in the name of the Banshee Queen's champion, Nathanos Blightcaller. He stated that by rights he should send Lor'themar's head to Sylvanas, though he ordered the Regent Lord to leave instead.[4]
Cataclysm
Following the Cataclysm, Hawkspear found an "item of magical energy", which has turned the elves at the lodge into Wretched.[1] Only Hawkspear, Kirkian Dawnshield, and Kriss Goldenlight are known to have escaped this fate. While Dawnshield chose to seek out personal assistance at the base of the nearby Northpass Tower Hawkspear, now known as "Death-Hunter", could be found to the side of the Argent Crusade's corpse burning pit down below, looking off at his former home in the distance. The former Ranger Lord was apparently focused on destroying the undead, waiting for people to help him, but none have yet to make such an offer.
