Argus storyline

How are we going to handle it? As a single page named Argus storyline, with a section per zone, or as three pages (Krokuun storyline, Mac'Aree storyline, Antoran Wastes storyline)? - Linneris (talk) 05:56, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

I'd suggest we look at Vashj'ir quests as an example. --k_d3 07:02, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Yes, it makes sense to split them considering the Vashj'ir precedent. Though the Argus zones are quite small and their storylines short... - Linneris (talk) 13:09, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Tanaan Jungle

I don't see Tanaan Jungle here. Its quests were a part of the Garrison campaign IIRC. Should that be here? --Mordecay (talk) 21:04, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Like many things WoD-related, it's not done... ;_; I think it should be here, yes Xporc (talk) 21:11, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Garrison Campaign#In Pursuit of Gul'dan. --Mordecay (talk) 22:36, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
It was there originally, but as it stayed a redlink for a long time, someone removed it. I myself never got to it since I never played through 6.2 content. - Linneris (talk) 07:09, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

Thoughts on BfA section

First, I'm not sure that allied races recruitment quests should be on this page, as it is specifically for zone storylines. I originally placed it there, but I'm thinking of removing it.

And second, should the Kul Tiras and Zandalar finales be here? Alliance has "The Pride of Kul Tiras" and "A Nation United", Horde presumably has something similar that spans the entirety of Zandalar. If there are no objections, I will create Kul Tiras finale and Zandalar finale and put them here. - Linneris (talk) 10:33, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

No objection from me. Maybe a different page for the allied race storylines? Or do we have something for that already? Xporc (talk) 13:52, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Naming Standards

Originally brought up in the discord, but bringing here for further talk/documenting any standards or changes if we decide to make them.

Going through the zone storyline pages seems to have a lot of inconsistency in naming. Some of them are "{zone} storyline", some are "{zone} quests", and others are "{patch} campaign".

Most of the "{zone} quests" are more marking the slow change from a collection of quests in zones to overarching storylines in zones. There was no hard line where it really started changing in-game as far as I can tell, it was more of a slow progression. Do we draw the line somewhere arbitrary or should we just standardize all of them to the same standard? Right now the line seems to be drawn in Cataclysm, which the revamped classic zones being "storylines" (saving the origiinal classic zones as "quests"), but the endgame zones being "quests" - which feels to me like it should be the other way around if anything. (if we do change the standard, should we change the classic ones to "{zone} storyline (classic)"?).

Patch zones/storylines are either listed as "Zone storyline" (i.e. Isle of Thunder storyline) or as "Zone campaign" (Zereth Mortis campaign) or as "Patch campaign" (Chains of Domination campaign). Eithris thinks the "campaign" naming scheme may come from the "lore book" quest log changes in Battle for Azeroth (which explains the "Black Empire Campaign" that doesn't match with any of the other naming schemes).

Suraf said in the discord:

"Yea, I'm not sure about the whole storylines vs quests deal. But from what I understand, it should look like"
  • <expansion> campaign
    • <zone> storyline
    • <patch> storyline (only when it consists of story not part of an original zone, e.g. Fury Incarnate and Fractures in Time)
"Probably shouldn't draw the line anywhere. Just the older articles haven't been updated with a better flow than they are now. Kruggov is at least setting a good standard for the older content that could easily be applied to those "quests" articles (and then be moved to storyline instead)."

personally, i really like Suraf's suggestion here, what do others think? - IconSmall BloodElf Female.gifDeathKnight Akaria (T|C) 22:01, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

Looking in-game for more insight.
  • All the achievement descriptions list for pre-endgame zones are "Complete the [Zone] storylines listed below." This includes the Cata-Revamp Zones, and earlier TBC and Wrath Zones, as well as recent Shadowlands and Dragonflight Zones.
    • Prerevamp Classic zones are unavailable in retail, I looked in Wrath Classic and the achievements lists "complete quests in [ZONE]". This applies for everything (classic, TBC, Wrath).
  • Pre-BfA, every zone has a section in the quest journal (added in BfA). Listed as "[ZONE] Story Progress: X/X Chapters". This includes endgame zones like Isle of Thunder and Argus. This trend does continue for BfA pre-endgame zones (Zuldazar, Drustvar, etc.), but not the endgame zones (Nazjatar, Mechagon) like Pre-BfA does.
  • Starting with BfA Endgame content, and continuing through both leveling and endgame zones for Shadowlands and Dragonflight, the wording changes to "Campaign Progress", while the actual name for the "campaign" became less and less consistent.
My first suggestion: "Campaign" for overarching stories (Expansions, Endgame, and Patches), and "Storyline" to specific zones. This would help match the most recent themes Blizzard has been setting with the "Campagins" in the journals, and "storylines" for zones/achievements. This would change all the pre-MoP zones specific ones from "quests" to "storyline" (i.e. Zangarmarsh quests to Zangarmarsh storyline / Feralas quests to Feralas storyline (Classic)). As for all the leveling content post-cata, nothing would change.
I have no issues with endgame campaigns (Alliance War Campaign,  [Kyrian Campaign]), I think we should just leave those as "Campaigns".
For Patch content, how do we settle on naming? Do we go with the inconsistent names Blizzard puts out in the quest journal (Black Empire Campaign, Secrets of the First Ones)? Do we go with just Patch names as per the most recent journals in-game (Chains of Domination campaign, Guardians of the Dream campaign)? What do we do with zones from patches (Isle of Thunder storyline, Forbidden Reach storyline)? What if those patches have multiple unrelated zones without an overarching (Nazjatar storyline, Mechagon storyline)? What of patches without zones (Fractures in Time campaign, Fury Incarnate campaign)?
  • I think a possible solution is just ditching single-zones and inconsistent Blizz names, and just name them "[PATCH] campaign". (Firelands Invasion to Firelands Invasion campaign / Argus storyline to Shadows of Argus campaign / Merging Nazjatar storyline & Mechagon storyline into Rise of Azshara campaign.
  • Could also just make "[PATCH] campaign" alongside "[ZONE] storyline" for these, instead of converting Forbidden Reach storyline to Return to the Forbidden Reach campaign, make them as separate articles with the Return campaign linking to the Forbidden Reach storyline when it goes to that zone (the vast majority of it), but that make just create more really short articles that simply serve to link to the larger sub-article.
  • Another would just ignore it and keep it as the mess it is. I dont really like the mess honestly, but I'll cede if others think its fine as is.
What do you guys think? - IconSmall BloodElf Female.gifDeathKnight Akaria (T|C) 23:38, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
